Friday night was the first Brewers Plate event in Toronto celebrating local eating and local craft breweries. Arriving a bit late, we found ourselves celebrating more brewing then eating so in fairness I feel compelled to stick to the beer aspect of the event rather than the food. But not to worry - there is plenty to share on the beer front. Thank goodness I ran into Troy Burtch from Great Canadian Pubs and Beer who pointed me right away in the direction of the gems to be had on tap.

The double chocolate cherry stout from Black Oak Brewery could easily be paired with a desert, the bitter edge with the chocolate taste was unique and very good with a fruity cherry note at the end - it reminded me of cherry blossom chocolates (but in a good way).

John Graham from Church Key Brewery was serving his Lactese Falcon which is a sour brown ale that was being served with Jamie Kennedy fried pickerel, a perfect match for the acidity of the beer. I thought it was a great choice to be serving with food. Church Key has great names for there beers as well like the peat smoked “Holy Smoke Scotch Ale” and a rye and caraway ale called “Catch Her in The Rye.”


But at the beginning and end of the night it was Cameron’s that I was quaffing - one of my favourite local brews - I sadly cannot remember what it was paired with but it tasted good all on it’s own and Mike made sure we were set up for the night. Thanks Mike!
