I am starting a new monthly feature here at the Foodie-file called “Foodie Finds Friday”. The regional and local way of eating has really taken off and people across our giant nation know their own best food finds but if you are outside the geographical area you are out of the loop. I want to celebrate food from coast to coast so from now on Fridays will be the day to showcase a region, city, or foodie-event. Hopefully I will get a lot of participation and we can all learn about the best dishes, fruits, drinks or specialties from downtown Vancouver, BC to Elora, Ontario.
To launch the first friday: A GIVE AWAY!
I have invited all of my audience at the Good Food Festival to post their best foodie finds from their day at the show - the first ten to post comments will receive a Canadian Living apron. Don’t stop posting though because I have been inclined to give away extras when I am feeling generous!

My best ‘food find’ at the food fair today was “Time-Wise” whole grain brown rice. Learnt it has been on the market since last year but have never seen it. Love the fact that it cooks in 15 minutes and tastes great! My hubby prefers white but I will definitely be serving this more often since it cooks up as fast as white rice.
The chocolate cake demo - icing was very good - the cake was so light it almost tasted like a package cake.

This is the first year that my family and I have attended the show. I had seen an advertisement for it in a Canadian Living magazine. We would definitely go again. What I found most helpful was your seminar on how to make butter icing and how to ice a cake, let alone cut it! You had so many helpful tips. My husband and I talked about all the suggestions on the way home. He thinks I should buy a moveable cake stand as I had just tried to cut a cake in thirds this past week.

I have just started cooking on my own. I have helped my dad sice I can remember. When my mom saw an advertisement for this show in the Canadian Living Magazine my parents and I thought that it would be something different to do as a family. I really enjoyed the cake! Or cupcakes that were given out. My dad especially liked the icing. Another good talk that my parents and I sat in on was the Purple Sweeties. The recipies that I tried were easy to make but at the same time very tasty! I would definitly go again but next time I would sit in on the Canadian Living talks more.

I have been cooking since I was in my teens. When my wife showed me the advertisement for this show I thought, instead of going to a fishing show, this would be a good show to attend. I thought that your seminar had some very helpful hints and I enjoyed the cake. I liked the asparagus recipie as well. Another seninar that I enjoyed was the one for wheat and barley. Pete was a good speaker. I enjoyed his food very much. I look forward to going next year. Some of the line-ups for the booths were very long!

My best food find at the Good Food Festival was the minced garlic and other garlic products from Derelea (sp) as these are great time savers and they let you get the flavour of the garlic in your meals without the fuss. Their new product the sundried tomatoe bits were really great to add to a garlic bread or to a salad or any other meal. It is great to have these time saving additions that add a splash of flavour and colour tothe whole idea.
I just love them and all of their products they are great and I look forward to seeing more from them.
PS I also found your cake demo at the Good Food Festival very interesting and helpful. Have a great day and I look forward to participating more in this adventure.

The best find EVER at the Good Food Festival (and sadly they didn’t attend this year) was the Chris and Tal’s line of products from last year (or was it the year before). The flavour and texture of meat, with the healthiness of soy, and the convenience of being pre-cooked and frozen. Nothing this year came close to this type of all-in-one perfect product.
