Here is a picture of the Canadian Living’s beautiful kitchen stage designed by our decor editor Karen Kirk. I just wanted to say a thank you to everyone who came to the Canadian Living stage at the Good Food Festival to see my how to ice a Chocolate Layer Cake and Kids Oatmeal Cookie demonstrations on the weekend – it was fun to meet viewers face to face and get feed back about the things that you all find interesting. I especially liked seeing how engaged the kids in the audience were and the great questions they had for me afterward. There were a number of exhibitors that were focused on healthy eating for children – I thought the Gimme 5 stage was excellent and really engaged their young audience. The kids went away with remembering the 5 colours of the healthy fruits and vegetables as well as a healthy lasagna they made with their own hands.
Keep posting those comments – I still have more aprons to give away!

Sounds like I missed a wonderful day out! Will definitely have to make it to Toronto next year for this event. Your blog did prompt me to visit the website where I learned about the work of Second Harvest. What a brilliant idea. Encouraging others to donate extra prepared food and produce. Just a few evenings ago I watched in horror as a very well-known coffee shop dumped perfectly good and fresh muffins, sandwiches and pasties into the garbage before closing up. This was in the downtown core of our city in London, Ontario, a place where the homeless are very obvious.

Angela, Second Harvest is a great organization, I worked with them quite a bit in the restaurant industry. They are always willing to make arrangements to get food and make it very easy to donate goods. I update events regularily in my blog so bookmark me or subscribe to the RSS feed so you don’t miss out on any other events!

We have something similar in Vancouver called Eat Vancouver where we can try samples of food from local restaurants, and there are many demonstrations and special guests, like the guy from Glutton For Punishment.

The Good Food Festival was a huge let down compared to years past. Though the cooking demonstrations were interesting, expesialy the cake decorating one. I got some really good tips about piping bag tips and decorating with them. Also the stand and that knife you used. You made itlook easy. Other than that I was really disapointed with the good food festival.
