Winners, and Weekly Giveaway #4

Happy Monday!

Getting the week off to a good start, I'm pleased to announce the winners of last week's contest. picture-11Congratulations to Sherrie and Whistlepea! You've each won a copy of  Sew What! Bags by Lexie Barnes. I think you'll have a great time with this book, and, as always, I'd love to see what you make. Look for an email from me in your inbox soon.

(Thanks to everyone who submitted a question last week – I'm delighted with the range of topics you covered and looking forward to working my way through the list. I have a feeling it's going to be a learning experience for me, too! )

On to Weekly Giveaway #4...This week, I've got a treat for the crochet-fanatics in the crowd. Hooked for Life: Adventures of a Crochet Zealot by Mary Beth Temple, is sure to strike a note of recognition whether you've got a thing for granny squares and ripple blankets, or if you just love all things yarn-related.

For your chance to win this book, please tell me  something that you've learned from your crafting. It could be something little (for example, I've learned I can't cut a straight line with a pair of scissors to save myself) or something big (if I like a project enough, I'll stick with it for years). I'm curious!

For your chance to win, leave a comment on this post telling me your crafty teachable moment by Friday, May 15, at 5 p.m. I’ll answer the questions as part of the ongoing Crafty Q+A series, and (because of the long weekend) I’ll announce a winner next Tuesday morning.

Have a great week!

    I can't believe I won! So exciting!

I've learned that I'm way more patient than I thought. At least with inanimate objects!

  2. sherrieg Says:

Yipeeeee! I'm very excited, and can't wait to get sewing. Thank you!

  3. Judi Says:

The pleasure of the receiver of receiving something you have made,I don't know who is happier:me or the receiver.

  4. Renee Says:

The realization that my mother does know best about sewing (among many other things).

  5. C.J. Miller Says:

If there's one thing I've learned, it's that some of my crafting is best done under supervision!

  6. sean pynaert Says:

I have learned to always be patient. You can ruin too many projects if you rush them.

  7. Mary Lou Says:

I've learned that perfectionism when it comes to crafts you make as gifts is overrated. The recipient seldom notices the so called flaws you do. Also, always knit a test swatch before knitting a garment. The one time I didn't, the sweater could have fit three people in it together!

  8. maria b Says:

    Patience and importance to detail.

  9. Knitterella Purl Says:

I have learned how to finish what I have started. Lots of yarn bits and projects scattered about puts things in perspective!

  10. Maureen Says:

    I learned that I can!!!

  11. Carolyn Says:

I've learned you don't have to spend alot of dollars to get alot of value when you craft

  12. SARAH Says:

I ahve learned that sometimes things don't take go as planned, but it never turns out to be a bad thing if you go with it

  13. Peggy Says:

I love to look at the books and see what I like and then have my mother-in-law do it for me..

  14. Jeannine Says:

I can't draw a straight line! Yes, even with the help of a ruler!! I always seem to make a mess of it.

I like to crochet....I've made many scarves (to give away as gifts) and have even made a few purses and vests....I'd love to learn to do something new.

  15. Vickie Says:

The most important thing I've learned (especially in knitting and crocheting) is to discipline myself in following instructions as they are written...not try and take shortcuts.

  16. Lorraine Says:

I crochet but I don't follow patterns. I am crochet challenged. I need guidance. A book from somone who knows would be good ;) Thank you for a very entertaining blog.

  17. Debbie W. Says:

I have discovered that I cannot multitask. I have to complete one project before I go onto the next, or else I end up with a pile of half completed projects.

  18. Teresa Says:

I make a plan and then follow it.

  19. Gina Goetz Says:

i have learned that i am creative!

  20. Carol M. AKA Ms. Edwina Scissorhands Says:

I learned when finishing a crochet project that took several months to complete, to be careful when snipping off the loose yarn ends after weaving them in. Be really, really, really careful.
