Weekly Giveaway #25
Hello again,
I don't know if you're like me, but every time I'm planning a trip I start to think about what bag I'm going to take with me. In an ideal world, I'd have the money, time and energy to make the perfect bag for every trip! The trip I took to NYC this weekend was no different, and I got tons of inspiration from a new craft book that landed on my desk a few weeks ago.
"Carry Me: 20 Boutique Bags to Sew" was the perfect book to read as I daydreamed about my trip. This is a Japanese craft book, published in English by Interweave, and so it's full of beautiful photography, step-by-step directions, easy-to-follow line drawings and (you know how much I love this) full-size paper patterns included at the back of the book.
In the end I ran out of time and didn't end up making a new travel bag, but I don't begrudge the time I spent poring over this book and dreaming! Whether you're heading on a trip yourself, thinking about making a gift for a wanderlusty friend, or just want to do some daydreaming of your own, I think you'll get a kick out of this book.
You know how it works: For your chance to win, leave a comment on this post by 11:59 p.m. Sunday, October 25th. I will post the winner here sometime on Monday, October 26th. Good luck!

I learned to sew by making bags & purses! I made myself a bag out of the top part of my then-boyfriends jeans years before they became popular! The looks I used to get on the streetcar with my bum-bag (as I called it) on my lap were priceless!

I LOVE these Japanese craft books - such wonderful & creative projects but the books themselves are simply so neat to look at. So many ideas float through my head for bags but executing them is another question...would really like to move on from the typical tote bags.
Oh BTW, does anyone have a fave place (locally or nationally) for great fabrics?
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:00 am
Oh Bag, my Bag!!!
I try and keep all my craft projects in bags so I can just grab and go when I go visiting friends. Imagine! Pulling out an afghan I'm making from a bag I made. That would be so great!
I'd love to have a copy of the book
October 22nd, 2009 at 11:25 am

October 23rd, 2009 at 12:14 pm
I'm back into sewing after almost 15 years without touching a sewing machine. I love it! I think there's a trend towards making your own Christmas gifts this year. I'm trying to do that. Bags would make a great gift...so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
October 23rd, 2009 at 2:48 pm

October 23rd, 2009 at 11:14 pm
I have so many pieces of fabric just waiting to be sewn into something and this book looks like the perfect place to get ideas. Instead of buying wrapping paper for Christmas gifts I could make up a bag for each person and put their gift in it. 2 gifts in one! Everyone loves bags for travel, shopping, or for carrying shoes in winter.
October 23rd, 2009 at 11:25 pm
Looks like a very interesting book.

Looks like a fabulous book. I haven't made a bag since high school Home Economics class...and now that recycling is so important, I'd love to make my own tote bags and other bags to use instead of plastic.
