How to keep your brown sugar fresh

Brown sugar is a combination of white sugar and molasses. It contains more moisture than white sugar, so if you open a bag of brown sugar and let it sit in your pantry for a while, it becomes as hard as a rock.

I’ve tried using a terra cotta moisture stones, sliced apples and even marshmallows – all with limited success. The best solution, I’ve found is to keep my brown sugar in the bag and wrap the entire bag tightly in plastic wrap. I’ve kept open bags of brown sugar in my pantry for months this way and it’s been a real life saver.
