Green weddings

I wonder if she opted for a green wedding!
I went to a wedding this past weekend, and I inevitably got to thinking about what one could do to have a green wedding.
I mean, traditional weddings are usually such large events which require so much planning and so much ... stuff! What possible could be changed or cut back on to help the environment?
My favourite is instead of offering table gifts, make a donation to one of your favourite charities. Another important thing to consider is serving foods and drinks that are grown and produced locally.
Some other tips:
• Find a dress made from sustainable fabric (bamboo, hemp, organic cotton, silk, etc). Or, reuse a friend's, your mother's or grandmother's dress.
• Use organic flowers in you and your bridesmaid bouquets, the boutonniers and on the tables.
• Register at companies that support fair trade and other sustainable practices.
• Ask that your guests bring your engagement, shower and wedding gifts unwrapped.
What can you add to the list? Did you have a green wedding? Would you change something if you did it over again?

Instead of bombonieres...you can make a donation in your guest's name....or give out tree seedlings or seeds for any other plant.

At my friends wedding they gave a gift of seeds with instructions on how to plant them to everyone. It was beautifully packaged and personalized with their names and date of wedding. Everyone loved them

Why doesn't the happy couple make their wedding invitations out of recycled paper that has seeds implanted in it so folks can have a living reminder in their gardens of the happy event. Would be nice if the location of the wedding was in an easy to get to location rather than say "flying to Hawaii" or some other far off location to get married. I've always liked a backyard wedding with miss matched chairs and homemade meals. Picnic weddings are the future

It was nice reading your post. I needed to know such information to update myself. I work in my friend’s boutique of flower girl dresses and also run a blog.

My husband and I alloped. Although some family members where disappointed and I know for some couples this isn't a option they would choice, but it was by far the most environmentally friendly choice.(Even my wedding dress was second hand)
We married a mile down the road from where we live and our honeymoon was less then 50 km away. I wouldn't change it for a big, expensive, stressful wedding anyday.(Sorry Dad)
My husband and I have been married over 18 yrs and I would never ask for a better man. Hoping for a successful marriage to anyone that does choice to get married , which ever way they finally choose. Thoughtfully, Bernadette
