Cleaning stinks ...

I'm one of those people who hates to clean. I avoid it at all costs, so when it's finally time to give the house a good scrub, I have to do it from top to bottom. I know I could divide up this daunting chore so I'd have less work on cleaning day, but whenever I have intention to clean, I compare it with the rest of the items on my to-do list and it quickly moves to the bottom. I mean, going to the beer store versus cleaning the toilet ... which sounds more compelling to you?

Do you avoid cleaning? What part of your house to you hate cleaning the most, and, as a result, is in dire need of a good scrub? Leave your answer here and you could win a:

i hate cleaning and scrubing the bathroom tub, it's too low and I always hurt my back.

  2. Anne Says:

I really don't enjoy cleaning at all; but the places I really put off cleaning are the bathtub (gosh it kills my back) and the fridge....ugh!

    I just subscribed via email!

    Thanks

  3. Anna G. Says:

My kitchen is in desperate need of a deep clean....and to make it worse...we are in the middle of our garbage strike...and I am running out of places for my recycling stuff...

My bathroom ceiling has a leopard-skin print on it!.....not literally, but this is the pattern the moisture from the shower makes as the attic has loose insulation in it. Occasionally there are also mold/mildew spots and this is the area in the house I find the toughest to clean. I have to reach above the shower and the bathtub, and it is very hard reaching over my head to get to those areas properly. To make matters worse, it comes back again! Yes...I have a strong fan in there.....

  5. Lorraine Says:

I don't like cleaning my kids' rooms. I have found green oranges shoved up in the corner behind their beds and other green unidentifiable former food items evolving into science experiments. The rooms look clean at first glance when I am running the vacuum, it is behind and underneath where all the scary things lurk...shudder!

  6. tara Says:

i really really hate cleaning. In fact we hired a cleaning service for a few years when i was working, but now that I'm home with the kids we cant afford or justify it. My most hated chore is cleaning the bathrooms, and yes as a result they are nasty.
i hope i win these products look great!

  7. Kiki Says:

The fridge could definately use a really good scrubbing! In addition to the obvious places (like the crisper) the freezer could also use a whole afternoon of good ole fashioed elbow grease to get it to a point of mother-in-law presentable.

  8. Londia Says:

I am the strange one as i did enjoy cleaning at one time. Turn on the music and start cleaning the house. But than i started to dislike cleaning because when you have kids it seems that you clean a mess after another mess and so on. When my youngest son does not make as many messes i am sure i will eventually someday get back into my fun of cleaning.
I want to dance and sing and clean again. :) :)

Windows are my nemesis. I have the old old type, so I have to clean them from the outside, having to remove the screens first, and from the inside. I have procrastinated for far too long, and just have to buckle down and do them. Sadly I am easily distracted..........oooo is that something shiny over there......

  10. dorothy s. Says:

i hate cleaning closets (clothes or storage). my problem is i procrastinate about throwing things away because (i may need it in the future or i may lose weight and be able to fit into it again). this is one space i choose to ignore.

    Oven and behind the toilet.

  12. Emily B. Says:

I hate to admit it, but we've been in our house almost two years now and have never once cleaned the baseboards, or pulled out the stove and fridge to clean behind them. I know, it's gross!
    I'm an email subscriber :)

  13. Lori Says:

Behind the toilet! It's always so icky back there

  14. Debbie W. Says:

    I hate cleaning,
    Cat fur everywhere.
    Always to clean up.
A job I want to share.

    I hate cleaning.
Behind the tub and the sink.
Scrubbing only when I have to.
    This job really does stink.

    I hate cleaning.
The dishes I hate the most.
    Good thing they invented paper.
    It's my investment to compost.

    I hate cleaning.
    What am I the maid?
    Everyone please pitch in.
It's not like I get paid.

  15. Carol Brown Says:

I too hate cleaning! I have a phobia about cleaning toilets and have never done one in my life. I lived with my brother after leaving home and he was a clean fanatic so no problem there. Then I met my husband-to-be and when I moved out of my brother's place, hubby took over. Safe so far!

  16. Margaret Says:

I really hate any kind of cleaning and as a result my whole house is in dire need of a good cleaning from attic to basement. I have 2 dogs and 2 cat now. I just adopted a kitten, a husband and a son who still live at home, at most I push the swiffer around the floor a couple of times a week, just to keep the dog hair at bay. the tub, well we all take showers to keep the tub rings at a mimimum. The vaccuum cleaner has been put upstairs a couple of weeks ago to vaccuum the dog hair up there and hasn't been brought down yet as I am still working at getting the hair. It's slowly coming..........Oh well someday my maid will come and do it..............maybe

  17. Danielle Says:

Believe it or not, I don't actually hate cleaning! In a strange way, I sometimes find it relaxing. If I had to chose a cleaning job that I don't so much enjoy, it would have to be cleaning the stove top. Ever since we've been cooking more at home, the white stove top always looks filthy and is usually sporting a tomato sauce splatter or some sort. I love cooking, but honestly, who feels like scouring the stove top after cooking a meal - I sure don't!

  18. Susan Spidle Says:

The dreaded spring and fall cleaning of washing walls and ceilings. Yuck. Who does this anymore?
Since badgering my hubby to smoke outdoors, we don't have yellow walls and ceilings. This is now a chore I don't do every 6 months. Also I believe in the woman who said, "turn the lights down low when you have company" (they will think you are saving on energy) and they won't notice the dust.

  19. Irene Says:

I, like you, hate cleaning. But, it's a necessary evil to keep a happy and tidy home. My husband and I have our weekly household cleaning chores. Basically, I do the laundry and mop the floors. He vacuums, makes the bed and cleans all of our bathrooms including the mirrors, vanities, tubs and the "yuckie" toilets. I love him for this, because I just hate cleaning toilets. I've done it a few times, but it disgusts me and makes me gag for some weird reason. But I appreciate him stepping up to the plate so I don't have to do it.

  20. Andrea B Says:

For me, the part of the house I put off cleaning the most are the shower walls/tub surround. It really doesn't take that long once I start, but the next day my leg muscles hurt in places I never thought I had, lol. I just love when it's done though with a nice streak free shine. Now if only I could find the cleaning fairy, I would be set, lol!

  21. JL Says:

Like most, cleaning the bathroom...why can't people just swish out the sink after they wash up......

  22. Jeannine Says:

Cleaning itself isn't so bad. I don't enjoy the bathroom, but it gets done. The thing I dislike the most is cleaning the oven; it's the smell of harsh chemicals that get me....that and the fact that you have to get your head into the oven to get it clean. Ew.

Aside from all that, the worst part is having to lug all the products and vaccuum around, up and down.

  23. Ash Says:

I hate cleaning the basement. It has tiny high windows, cobwebs and spiders lol. Also, there are 4 rooms in the basement, so it can only be done one room at time. The ceiling is awkward and so is the laundry tub. Also living in the country we sometimes get mice and they can make a real mess!

  24. Crystal P Says:

We just finished renovating our upstairs and the whole downstairs was let go in the process... and I don't even want to know whats living in our basement right now. The whole house is in dire need! There wouldn't be any PC cleaning Elves tucked into that beautiful bag with those lovely products by chance?

  25. Melanie McLaughlin Says:

My basement is the worst place in the house and needs a good cleaning, but who wants to be stuck in the basement now that the good weather is here. I may have to put it on hold until winter. I'm sure the dust bunnies will be dust rhinos by then.

  26. ennsee Says:

I avoid cleaning my bedroom. I have a tiny one bedroom which means that anything that I don't have room to store get stacked in the bedroom. Company coming ... quick eveything on the table into the bedroom. With everything that's accumulated there I dread having to tackle the task of cleaning it up.

  27. Eva Says:

I have ignored the growing issue of my laundry room for about a year and a half now - its easy to ignore as its in the basement!! But when I have to get in there to doing the weekly laundry clean it breaks my heart every time.

  28. Katrina Clarke Says:

I really hate cleaning the bathtub & surrounding walls. They are always at the bottom of my list & therefore quite grungy. I find there's so much involved, it's a full-body workout. The grout between the wall tiles is the worst! I did clean them this weekend as I am headed out on vacation later in the week. As much as I dislike cleaning, I find it's much worse to come home to a dirty house.

  29. Angela Says:

I don't mind the cleaning bit. I hate the clutter though. All the stupid papers taht come to the house. They just get piled! Eventually it drives me crazy!

  31. Emma Says:

I hate cleaning up after others outside. I especially hate watching garbage blow down the street or littered on lawns. I mean what message are we sending in our own community if we don't pick up after ourselves. I wish everyone would do their part so that all the garbage doesn't end up in our streams and ponds and impact the wildlife.

  32. Rose Says:

Here is my list... I hate cleaning the litter box, the oven (I know it is self cleaning but I hate wasting the energy to use that feature! and so I scrub....), curtains and venetian blinds, and lastly but not least our 18 year old turtle's (her name is Frieda)giant aquarium.....to borrow one of my children's words, it is GROSS!

  33. Barbara Says:

I can find any excuse not to clean my oven - don't know why, exactly, because it is self-cleaning!! Also have trouble with the areas that don't show, like inside cupboards etc. I like to keep surfaces pretty uncluttered so have the habit of shoving stuff here and there to get it out of the way. This habit has proven to be dangerous especially when it's the mail!

  34. stacey dempsey Says:

i actually like cleaning for the most part , the things i dont like are keeping up with the dust , taking out the garbage but i have 2 boys so that has fallen to them, only fair since i have to deal with the bathroom which would never get dirty if it werent for them LOL and scrubbing the shower, but in the end it all has to get done

  35. stacey dempsey Says:

oops forgot to say what needed a good scrub, that would be the windows

  36. Callie Says:

The bathroom! I hate it. especially the second bathroom as its used only by 1 of my roommates and he is a pig... but it has to be cleaned and he wont do it

  37. Linda Says:

Oh, for me it's windows! There are so many of them and some are hard to reach. It always seems so overwhelming, so I find I put it off way too long. Then it gets embarassing, so I have a big window cleaning day.

  38. sharon boyle Says:

I hate cleaning too.....but realize it must be done. The most hated cleaning job for me is vacuuming....moving everything is a real pain!

  39. Rosita Says:

I think my closet would need the most cleaning. I'm a compulsive shopper and feel best when I purchase a lot of things. As a result, my closet is filled with clothes, along with probably even more dust bunnies. I just shove everything in there and haven't dusted or cleaned it out in a long time. Now I can kind of understand why some people opt for mothballs... thought I can't stand the smell at all!

  40. Roxy Says:

I have to agree I'm very similar to you. I hate cleaning but it has to be done especially when you got company coming over. I find it interesting how much mess some family members can get away with but with friends we hold such shame if our place isn't tidy. Don't get me wrong I do prefer a clean house over a tidy one but I had to live with a pack rat growing up and this is where my fears of untidiness began. I guess this is why I'm such a minimalist now. I tell you it is far easier to clean after oneself than to have to clean up after others. Huge pet peve right there, people who dont clean up after themselves and I'm not talking about children. I do have dreams that I have a robotic maid named Rosie than I could never tell you that cleaning stinks as it wouldn't be my problem!

  41. Bcteagirl Says:

For some reason it is the microwave. I don't know why, but I just can't stand to clean the microwave.... ugh!

  42. Kat D Says:

I hate, hate, hate cleaning the bath tub in our en-suite. It is so deep and has a huge surround all the way around. I have to stand in the tub to clean it - no such thing as leaning over it! It is so bad that I quit using it after my first bath in it because I couldn't get out! I had to yell for my husband to come and pull me out! What a scene! We are now shower people! And the tub is collecting dust - so now I need to vaccuum it! At least the vaccuum has long tubing! Oh, and could someone please come over and scrub my floors? I'm not terribly fond of doing them either!

  43. Marlene V Says:

I don't mind cleaning but I find it hard to get to all those extra places beyond regular cleaning (ie. behind the fridge, in the china cabinet, above the kitchen cabinets, etc...) I hate cleaning windows:( They really need to be done!!!

  44. Tina Chase Says:

For me it seems to be scrubbing the tub. I think it's awkward and uncomfortable. Thankfully we just moved and have a separate shower and bathtub. Now I just have to figure out how to keep the shower doors sparkly and clean! LOL
    P.S. I am a subscriber....

  45. Elizabeth Says:

I used to clean houses for a living. I dont mind cleaning and it takes me very little time each day to tidy up my house. My worst chore is the oven and I have a bad habit of putting it off. My husband cleans it for me now as I find it the hardest chore of all.

  46. Adriana G Says:

I did get a bottle of all purpose cleaner Attitude and it performs to my satisfaction. Reasonable priced for the amount in a bottle.

  47. Vanessa Says:

I can't believe how messy the house can get in such little time with just two of us and a cat! (My fiance blames it on the cat of course!) My whole house needs a good scrubbing but with planning a wedding coming up in 3 short weeks I'm not sure where we are going to find the time!

  48. K Says:

Funny thing is its under the sink where all the cleaning supplies are kept is the pace that most needs a good clean in my apartment. I just realized it this week when returning the cleaning supplies and thinking about this contest. I will have to get on to that this week.

  49. Eire Says:

Right now everywhere needs a good clean but most of all under the stairs. Its like the twilight zone under there.

  50. Sarah Says:

A little trick for cleaning the microwave, put a deep bowl with some soapy water in it in the microwave for about 5 minutes, quickly clean after the time is up and it cleans so easy and no scrubbing involved. :)
