Can you still fit into the clothes you wore in high school? And a chance to WIN!

imagesCan you still fit into your high school clothes? Your answer probably depends on your age. If you graduated just a few years ago, you can probably wear your high school garb no problem.

But if you're approaching middle age, it's probably a much tighter fit. And whether you're willing to sport your high school styles again or not, the issue goes beyond retaining your youthful figure and the accompanying bragging rights.

Your waist size is an important indicator of your health. The 6-Week Cure for the Middle-Aged Middle: The simple plan to flatten your belly fast, by Mary Dan Eades, M.D. and Michael R. Eades, M.D., provides a plan for eliminating the unhealthy fat that can accumulate around the organs which they say is the true cause for the middle-aged bulge.

The good news is that with the right diet, this fat can be quickly reduced, enhancing both your appearance and your health.

For a chance to WIN a copy of The 6-Week Cure for the Middle-Aged Middle, just Subscribe To This Blog and post a reply telling us what you hope to accomplish in the next six weeks. What job, goal, nagging chore or delightful activity do you hope to have done by November 2?

You have until Monday, October 12 to let us know. I'll announce the winner here on Tuesday, October 13.

Wow. Do my high school clothes fit? Uh, NO. Four years ago, I would have to happily say yes; however, anti-depressants have helped me to round out that issue. I've packed on a considerable amount of weight and, yes, I'm now in my 40's. I hope to accomplish a huge change in my life. I've been married for a week now, and want to start the P90X exercise program. It's a huge goal to set, but my partner will embark on it with me.

  15. Doreen Says:

I already subscribe. My boyfriend and I have changed the way we eat. We eat alot of fruits and vegetables, fish and chicken. We have red meat once or twice a week. We changed to pumpernickel and whole wheat. We want to bring down his cholesterol and our wieght. We will succeed. That book would be a great way to do more for ourselves.

  16. Janice Says:

I would also like to have the kids clothes cleaned up, get those ones that don't fit out of their rooms! And have some winter clothes out for them (no more wearing shorts to school!).
And lastly, to get the toys we no longer play with to other children who will love them as much as we have!

  19. Carol Says:

My goal is to keep exercising on my bike and doing stomach crunches. I can't fit into my high school clothes - way too long ago for that! I am not overweight but my stomach is terribly out of shape. I would love to win this book - I really, really NEED it!

  20. mary Says:

i would love to accomplish the big job of cleaning out the house for an elderly man that is waiting to go into the nursing home, it is a very time consuming thing to try to do, especially having to decide what to throw out and what to keep for him, i have been doing this slowly for the past 5 months already

I have a job interview tommorrow. I hope to accomplish getting this job tommorrow so that I can quit driving a school bus. I am educated and extremely curious.....driving a school bus is not very fulfilling.

  23. Marilyn C. Says:

Thankfully, after almost a year of healthy eating and working out, I would be able to fit into my high school clothes. My goal is to reduce belly fat,put away seasonal clothing and get more involved in community volunteer work.

  24. Marie-Lise Says:

I still fit in my high school close turn 50 in April , but I would need some toning . In high school I weigh 125 and today my weight is 115 . My goals would be to take time to walk and exercise soon . Its just to find the time . But I am shure I will soon . Thank You

I have been running for 15 years and enjoy being active. Even though I consider myself healthy, I have developed this "middle" over the years. At 55 I would like to tackle this problem over the next 6 weeks!!!

  27. Cheryl Says:

I had to laugh at this title. Back in 1975 my mother bought me Osh Kosh b'Gosh bib overalls striped like a railroad conductor's, and a matching hat. My father was horrified! I still have them. For many years they were kept as spare clothes in the car in case I got a flat tire, but eventually made it back to my closet. I don't wear them often but when I do teenage girls chase me down and ask where I bought them!

My goal within the month, or rather within the next few days, is to get a membership at the Y and start swimming again and start yoga classes and maybe some other exercise classes. I want to strengthen my back muscles due to whiplash from a car accident, get fit, and increase my overall health.

  28. Elizabeth V Says:

My high school clothes are looong gooone!! I hope to finsih my fall cleaning and prepping my house for the coming winter months. I have lots to do and six weeks is a good goal to have them done by.

I hope to have all my photos from 2008 into a scrapbook by Nov 2. This would fall into all of the categories you listed (job, goal, nagging chore or delightful activity) for me!! And my high school clothes? They would be a little snug on me... well, ok, really snug...

  31. Josip Says:

I would like to finish the outside deck in my backyard.

Now that outdoor summer activities will be cut short, I hope that by November 2nd, I will be getting into the full swing of working out in my basement gym on a regualar routine.

  33. Brenda Says:

What i am wanting to accomplish in the next six weeks is get the outside of the house all ready for winter, clean out the inside of the house and have a garage sale to find a new home for all the unwanted items from inside, and hopefully in that time lose 6 pounds!

  34. Joan Says:

I was actually bigger and weighed more in high school than I do now but age and gravity have taken over. My belly fat is the bane of my existance. I had sciatica, I bent over to relief the back problem and unfortunately lost
most of my stomach muscles. I really need to lose
the fat around the middle but walking and golfing don't seem to do the trick. Help! I will be on vacation in October and I hope the walking and ,gasp, swimmimg will help.

  35. cathie Says:

No way do they still fit...almost 50, 4 children, 3 total hip surgeries, painful divorce and I just quit smoking...but the sad part is I do still have them..why???? ever the hopefull..so I'm trying to eat better, even thou I LOVE to cook and bake, yah exercise is hard cause I'm on my
feet all day as a nurse, but if I could drop a few pounds I think the love of my life would find me sexy again, and I'd feel better about myself again...oh well, u gotta just think positive and keep trying...I get there, someday...xo

  36. Yvonne Says:

At the ripe old age of 51 I could still fit into my high school clothes - they might even be a little big. I have learned the benefits of exercise - although there is always room for improvement - my day job involves sitting on my butt for hours. By Nov. 2nd I hope to have my flower pots emptied and all the leaves that will fall by then, raked up and added to my compost piles.

  37. Lisa G Says:

Colder days are ahead and need to make certain changes. Cut down on certain foods and return to my stationary bike exercises. Need to lose 70 lbs. No, I wouldn't fit in my 1972 year clothes!

I'm back at school and I am indeed bigger than the high school years. I'm taking Yoga and concentrating on the whole family's health. Lots of projects yet to be realized.

  41. Christine B Says:

I plan on taking the computer tutorials that I have been putting off.

  42. ibrink Says:

I want to join a walking club to keep me motivated.

  43. Patricia P Says:

I turn 50 in December and I just started university earlier this month. My goal is by November 2 is to figure out how to study and do papers.

  44. Carolyn Says:

In the next 6 weeks I would like to lose 6 pounds. I have already lost 4 this past month. A total of 10 is a huge start on reducing the impact on my joints which have some damage from arthritis. Fitting into my high school clothes would be a distant dream. I would very much like to fit into my wedding gown from 1981 if only just for the fun of it. (Does anyone really want to go back to the 80's styles? lol)

  45. Cynthia Says:

Well lets see,I don't have any clothes left from high school unforutately i didn't go to high school pass nine. I had to work and pay the bills to survive but i think the clothes that i would have worn would be WAY TOO TIGHT. My goal is more of a family goal we are all over weight and need to be more activite so i have started joining programs and doing more things with the children. Together we are TRYING to change the way and what we eat and this is the hardest especially for the teenager. In the next 6 weeks i hope to learn what foods are better for us and seeing how many of them that we will eat and how to make them taste better so that we will eat them. This giveaway would help in a big way. It so hard just to get yourself into a healther lifesylt but to do it for to children to it is so much fighting and crying because they don't want to or understand that we have too.

  46. Marlene V Says:

I have subscribed. My goal would be to lose 5 pounds by eating healthier and exercising more regularly. I also plan to finish painting my fence and go through my kids room and do a major clean-up!!! thanks for the great giveaway

  48. Irene Says:

Within six weeks, I hope to clean and organize my closets and get the structure back into my wardrobe. I hope to get rid of the clutter and put every item in its proper place so that I can easily open my closet and know where everything is. This would save me time in finding something and put neatness back into my life. An uncluttered closet makes an uncluttered mind.

  49. Brenda Hamilton Says:

I weighed 91 lbs. in highschool and weigh a heck of a lot more now, so no way!

  50. Dianne Arsenault Says:

I hope to boost up my strength training and lose 5 pounds.

  51. Rose Holloway Says:

My goal is to increase my strenght while starting a yoga program :D

  52. Joan-Anne Says:

I have just turned a young 60! I have noticed that I need to trim my waist & thighs especially now that I am a "Nuvo-Retiree" & my activity level is very different. I have just joined our community center for the fitness. My goal in six weeks is to be firm & trim & keep at the gym. Thanks.

  53. Debbie Says:

In the next six weeks plan to get my grass cut one more time before winter and put all my ornaments, lawn chairs tables etc, away. I plan to keep up with my Aqua Arobics as I really enjoy it.Would love to win this book,as I have never had trouble with a big middle till this year and it really bothers me.

  54. Sandra Mothersell Says:

I am very interested in this book. I have sisters very close to my age and we are finding the middle-aged middle a big problem. We need help!!!!!!!!!

  55. gayleb Says:

I am in my late 40's and going through the change and although I have always been a big build, am pretty fit and energetic and very young at heart. The way my body has changed in recent years really annoys me, I have gained weight on my back, around my waist and on my abdomen. Although I know I'll never be a lightweight, I'd love to win this book and see if I can get rid of these annoying problem areas. I so need this!

  56. Charlene Says:

No I don't fit in the same clothes I worn in high school. I wish. I have put on well over 150 pounds more since the 80's.

I have been walking everyday, that is my goal.

  57. Karen Says:

I don't have any clothes from high school either. ...just a little too long ago! I just turned 52 but I think I'd probably be close to fitting into the same clothes although my waist has thickened a bit over the last 5 or so years. My main goal by Nov 2 is to get my yard ready for the rainy season (winter on the west coast). This is not trivial since it's a new house with zero landscaping and I'm still in the process of moving dirt and leveling the yard to ready it for plants. I'm also going to get back to the gym and doing my bodyweight exercises.

  58. cindy Says:

I need to find a new job and try to get organized.

  59. Nancy D Says:

No I cannot fit into my high school clothes. They would be too big! I have been chubby all of my life. I lost weight once in my early 20's but with 2 kids I gained it back. 10 years ago I decided to do it again. I have since lost 60 pounds and have kept it off. I am now 46 and I have just joined the gym. In the next 6 weeks I need to lose the last 10 pounds. I am sure this book would help me.

  60. Nicola Says:

I still have one pair of jeans that I bought at "Jacob" when I was 17. I remember trying them on several times before paying the $65 price tag. $65 was a lot of money for me back in the late 80's (still is for that matter), but I loved them and they didn't make my butt look big! I have pinned them up on my bedroom wall several times since then as an incentive to lose weight. Unfortunately, they have never done the trick...maybe the book will...

  61. Cathy Stuart Says:

Unfortunatley, the answer would have to be no - no way can I fit into the clothes I wore in high school. I wish that I could.

My goal is to finish getting rid of all the unnecessary stuff (aka, junk) that I have stored throughout my living space.

  62. louise kaszuba Says:

well, i certaintly cannot wear my school clothes i was only 105 pounds, now i am 160 and loosing, i had to take 3 medication which causes weight gain. but i still try to loose and get into shape, now i wear size 14 to 16. i need to loose 30 pounds.

  63. Elaine Says:

I have been out of high school for over 50 years, however, I am only a few sizes larger than I was then. However since I stopped smoking three years ago the weight has shifted and is settling around my middle which is not healthy. I need to lose 15 pounds to fit into my "old" wardrobe. These are clothes I love so please, please help me.

  64. Karen Wattie Says:

This is about when I would normally start to bake for Christmas. But my freezer is so full of fruit and meat at the moment, I don't really have room for goodies yet. I will, however, start to work on some sort of card that I can get printed off in time to send to my special friends.

  65. Karen Wattie Says:

Oh, and I've been out of school for over 40 years and only weighted 88 pounds back then, so I'm actually glad to say I weigh more now.

  66. May Says:

Yes, I can fit into my high school dress, I am 50 years old, weigh 106 lbs I have 1 child. I am in better shape than some 20 years old which make me very proud of my achievement. It took hard work and dedication. I work out 6 days a week, I do intense cardio and weight lift. We can be anything we want as long as we have the desire therefore the age is only a number. In the next couple of weeks I want to clean out my closet.

  67. Dianne Says:

I wish I could fit in those clothes, but sadly the answer is no. Trying to eat healthy and exercise is an ongoing project for me.

  68. dian Says:

i would love to finish getting my closets cleaned out before winter

  69. Michelle Y Says:

I will be moving to another city, decorating my new apartment and freshening up my skills before beginning a new job! Wish me luck;)

  70. Ailie Says:

I have some painting that I need to finish before the end of October, I work during the week and find that if I make small goals for each weekend I do not fall too far behind. Even if my clothes from High School fit, I would not wear them :)

  71. Carolyn Says:

I wish I could fit into my clothes from high school, because the styles from 37 years ago are back in.
I am going on a cruise in November and I would love to "tone up" (lose the jiggle) by November 2.

  72. Kat D Says:

High School was almost 40 years ago so "No" I can't fit into the clothes I wore way back then. Having said that, I am much healthier and more physically active than I was in high school.

  73. Angela Says:

In the next few weeks I want to finish the course I'm taking so I can spend more time with my family.

  74. kerrismom Says:

I'm over 50 now so, no, I can no longer fit into my high school clothes, however I do need to lose about 30 pounds. I put on the weight when I quit smoking about 4 years ago. I hope to finally put away all my summer things and get ready for winter and Christmas

  75. Lornalynne Says:

I hope to have my flower beds tidied up, maybe plant some bulbs, looking forward to spring!

  76. Theresa Says:

yes i can and they would be loose on me. However, the skirts are a little longer now.

  77. Meg Says:

I have a pair of Levi's that fit 45 pounds ago. I would like to put them on, and button them up, one more time before they go. Maybe by November I can get them past my knees!

  78. Conni Christensen Says:

In the next six weeks I plan on keeping my family healthy enough to fight off any signs of H1N1 flu. I'm going to duct tape my mouth shut so that I don't eat the leftover Halloween candy. I've GOT to make jelly out of the grapes that are STILL in the freezer...they're my nemesis! Nope, I cannot fit into my highschool clothes...grad '82....I'm about 4 sizes up now...RATS!!

  79. Lillie Says:

By November 2, I hope to still have my temp job, or be accepted into one of the many full-time positions with benefits I've applied for, so I can take care of my three kids on my own and escape a stressful situation...the same stress that has contributed to the extra 20lbs sitting on my middle and making me round. Yuk.

  80. Grace Says:

I used to have a waist under 23" in high school at almost 5'6" tall! Now at 29", I think, so it seems impossible that I'd get my 23" back? Haha. 25" or 26" wouldn't be too bad. I managed to get down to 116 lbs from 140 lbs after a few months of becoming more mindful of my chewing habits, now at a stable weight of 122 lbs. I don't think I should lose more lbs, but a trimmer waist would be nice.

  81. Kathy Says:

I'm turning 50 shortly and I guess that's middle-age. Certainly my middle has aged! My hubby and I want to go on a tropical vacation in December and I hope to lose 20 lbs before then. I want to feel comfortable in a bathing suit.

  82. Christina Says:

I can fit into my high school clothes again, but not yet my post-university clothes. I lost quite a bit of weight after university, and have a bit to lose since my pregnancy to get back into those clothes.

  83. Cecilyanne Says:

Not only do I still fit into my high school size, I am looking to actually put on a few. I was a size 6 in high school, but now my jeans waist size is 28, and my dress size is a 2/4 depending on where I purchase. I am blessed with a humminbird metabolism, oh yeah, Im 51.

  84. Cecilyanne Says:

PS: I do not have an exercise regime, and I pretty much eat what I want. The key I think is that I don't make poor choices. I really love healthy foods.

  85. pauline Says:

Almost 40 years since I was in highschool...had a pair of Levis cords in every color they came....could definitely still fit into them if I still had them. In many ways I am in better shape now as I don't take my health for granted.

  86. Leona Farrell-Wadden Says:

Turning 42 in March 2010 . Must say the past year has been wonderful ! Over weight all my life , now feeling much better. Learned to add exercise 1 hour daily to my life and feel 15 years younger.
I walk the first 1/2 hour , then walk and jog the last 1/2 hour. Usually jog 1 mile (which is 7 laps at our local skating rink ) Does not cost me any money and the air is nice and cool in the rink during the winter months . Then during the summer I use the outdoor track early in the morning before it gets to warm. Must say life is wonderful and just getting better and better everyday. I forgot to mention I have been seperated for over one year and have two teenage daughters, but I learned how to make time for myself ! Before this all happened I always put everyone else first and me last, now taking care of myself is so important in all areas of my life. I hope my story can inspire at least one person , We need to love ourselves first and then eveyone else next. That way we do a better job in all aspects of our lives. Thank you for reading my blog . Leona Farrell-Wadden (almost 42).

  87. Catherine Says:

I just turned 40 recently and I can most definitely wear my high school clothes. I went to an all girl high school in Toronto and wore a kilt....still fit into it! All my 'metal head' clothes from my teenage years....yep, they all fit too. I still have many items of clothing that are close to 25 yrs old and I still wear them and they still look fabulous. I guess I have taken really good care of myself and my clothes thruout the years.....and I have 2 teenaged boys!!! I still feel 25 and most people don't believe my age. I feel like I'm getting better with age and I am loving it!!!

  88. Brandy Says:

I'm the same weight as I was in high school, only it's now in different places.

  89. diane duff Says:

I actaully weigh less now, than i did in high school. Not very active back then and too many visits to mcdonalds.
I find as we age, were more aware of what we put in our bodys, and the need to be more physically fit.

  90. Annie Says:

I turned 50 this past April. Have tried everything to loose weight...but haven't been able to loose anything. I have high cholestrol, high blood pressure, severe major depression (on medication for all the systems). I really need to loose (approx 45 pounds - all around the belly)weight and can use all the help I can get. Thanks!

  91. Janet Says:

    Fat chance.
But I do wear my husbands graduation sweather of 65 for a comfort when I'm cold & hes away working.

  92. debbie Says:

    debbie says:
I no longer fit into my highschool clothes as I am smaller now than I was then.

  93. Karen Says:

No fortunately I don't fit into my high school clothes!!! I say fortunately because I was not the most fashion forward person and more comfortable in my skin Now than then. I am very healthy and look and feel pretty decent for my age and really like my clothes now....I am actually healthier now as well...too much junk food then!!!

  94. Margaret Kupper Says:

Moved to the city and lost 13 lbs. during the move , without even trying. My high school clothes would still be a tad tight. My goal by Nov. 2 is to have all my photos in an album and all my recipe books updated and loose recipes, etc. that I save and never use, thrown out.
