How do you stay young? And a chance to WIN!

Oh my lord, I'm getting old.

At least, that's how it feels these days. Maybe it's the shorter days and the cooler temperatures that are making me feel stiff, sore, tired and generally ancient. (Or maybe it's the fact that I am, in fact, a 96-year-old woman trapped in the body of a 31-year-old.)

I wistfully remember those fresh, energetic spring days filled with the promise of a summer that would go on forever.

And now. Here we are. November, daylight savings time, and flu season loom large on the horizon. Not to mention another birthday.

I need your tips on how you keep yourselves young! And in exchange, I'll provide one lucky winner with a copy of the brand new book The Hormone Diet: Lose Fat. Gain Strength. Live Younger Longer by Dr. Natasha Turner, naturopathic doctor.

Just Subscribe To This Blog and post a reply telling us what you do to keep yourself feeling young for a chance to WIN. You have until Wednesday, November 11 to enter. I'll announce the winner here on Thursday, November 12.

I exercise daily, eat healthy and enjoy a long term marriage.

  3. Jeannine Says:

Truthfully? I try not "to sweat the small stuff", I try to get a good night's sleep everyday, I take some time out for me every day (like posting here at Canadian Living Blogs), drink lots of water, and smile. Yes, smile at myself in the mirror, smile at everyone I come across....and even smile before I answer the phone. Eat healthfully...but I don't deprive myself of the occasional chocolate! Enjoy time with my partner....and with my child (together and individually). I get inspiration from my "alone walks" by the lake.

Now that I'm 41, and recently married for my 2nd time, I have to really focus on losing some weight and keeping it off....menopause is around the corner!

  4. Jeannine Says:

...oh, yes, I forgot to say:

    Finally, love myself!

  5. sean pynaert Says:

I eat a lot of vegetables, do some stretches and some exercise everyday (even if it's just going for a walk), take multi-vitamins, vitamin D, calcium, probiotics, and fish oils.

  8. christine conway Says:

Do something foolish once in a while. Its risky and playful and keeps the mind alive. And thats where feeling young starts. The body follows.

  9. Carla Says:

By never thinking about age as a drawback but rather as a celebration :)

  10. gayle robinson Says:

I believe in eating breakfast each morning. I use creams to keep my skin hydrated, drink water. I make myself take the dog for a walk each day. I try to exercise even if it is only dancing with the music on the t.v. or radio. I try to do puzzles or read to keep my brain active. I am growing older but in my mind I am still young. It is hard to realize who we have become.

  11. Marlene V Says:

I take proper care of my skin and not think about my age!!! Thanks for the giveaway:)

  12. Amy Barroso Says:

I'd have to say starting a new career. What started out as my "plan B" (while I still have a great job) has actually sent me back about 20 years! There's nothing like studying for a 3 hour exam to make you feel 18 again! Not that I really liked being 18, but the feeling of learning, using my brain, being nervous and getting out of my motherly rut has really done wonders for confidence. It's also a great way to show your children that you're never too old to learn new things. Because my "plan B" was in the health and fitness realm the added bonus of losing 15 lbs didn't hurt either. Cheers :)

  13. Irene Says:

To stay "young-feeling", I not only try to eat and exercise healthy, but I find that if you hang around with a younger crowd, you pick up on their youthful vibe from the vocabulary they use and their clothing. So you start dressing and talking hipper and you will feel young all over.

  14. Jack Davis Says:

I stay young by walking regularly and thinking young.

I find people my age start to think old and it affects how they live to the point that it starts to age them mentally and physically.

    Don't do it!

    STAY FIT AND THINK YOUNG!

  15. Victoria F Says:

eating and exercising are fine, but I really enjoy getting down to my grandchildren's level and playing with them and spending time with them listening to them and hearing their belly laughs. This is so much fun and puts a huge smile on my face :)

  16. Joan Says:

Eat lots of fruit and vegetables, drink 6 glasses of water daily, smile, exercise daily and most of all, avoid all of the fast and processed food that tempts us every day. A healthy diet with exercise goes a long way to relieve stress and keep us young.

  17. mary Says:

i just keep on moving everyday, even on the days when i am sick in bed, i will still get dressed and go outside to at least walk to the corner for some fresh air

  18. Kara B Says:

I don't ever want to grow up! I try to exercise once a day, take multivitamins, eat healthy and be sure to drink lots of water. But, the most important thing I do is try not to take myself so seriously and to enjoy life as it comes. Knowing that life doesn't have to be so serious, and that I don't need the big house and fancy car, helps me to think about what really is important and to appreciate the little things and people that make me truly happy.

  19. Rumiko Says:

Getting to my power yoga or cardio kickbox class always gets me up in spirits, even though it can be a real challenge getting myself to the gym sometimes. But once I'm there, there is no regrets. And it's not just the heart pumping exercise but the fun atmosphere and the connection you get with your own body (& the cute outfits!) that remind me that it's NOT all downhill from here... Also having goals in life helps tremendously as in order to reach them, you have to push and challenge yourself, learn new things, and essentially grow as a person, which keeps your mind, heart & spirit young. One thing I learned for sure is that maturity and wisdom certainly do not come with chronological age.

  20. Rod Kusiek Says:

I Garden! It is a great way of being outdoors and getting daily exercise. As well I eat healthy organic home-grown fruits and vegetables that I've grown.

  21. maria b Says:

Most of my friends are much younger than me. I look a lot younger, i keep up with current fashion and entertainment and feel young!

  22. Karen Says:

I exercise (outside for the fresh air unless the weather is really really really crappy), and I drink at least 2 litres of water a day (keeps my skin moist from the inside)

  23. Toby Says:

Laughter!! Lots of laughter! Being happy keeps you young...so keep smiling!! :D

  24. Jason Says:

I stay young by working out.

  25. Kat D Says:

It's all about attitude! I approach life as though there is nothing that I can't accomplish! At 53 I started climbing mountains, doing yoga and now I'm going back to school! I am in the best physical, mental & emotional shape I have ever been in in my life! That makes me feel young!

  26. Evelyn Says:

I like to play with my kids, you know, those imagination games where you are on a big adventure on the look-out for dinosaurs, or pretending that you are a hamster, or whatever! Its a total stress-buster!

  27. mandy Says:

i eat lots of fruit and veggies and take my vitamins everyday ,oh and spend time playing with and laughing with my son:)

  28. Sunshine Says:

By changing eating habits and incorporating more movement every day I have managed to drop 80lbs since June of last year. This is super motivating to release the rest of my weight and maintain this lifestyle so our kids can reap the benefits along with us. My dad recently came for a visit and said I looked 10 yrs younger than when I was heavy. Life is not guaranteed and we need to make the most of every moment

  29. Jessica L. Says:

    Laugh lots!

  30. Dianne Says:

Age is only a number so I don't worry that I am getting up there in the years. I like to spend time with my grandchildren and keeping up with them sure keeps a person young. We laugh and have fun and any stress I may have felt before is gone when I am with them.

  31. Debbie W. Says:

I laugh every day. Laughter exercises many muscles, and a good hearty laugh can increase heart rate and metabolism.
A smile makes me look 10 years younger.
So, my secret to staying young is be happy, look happy. You are only as old as you feel. I won't mention my age, because I feel like I'm 22.

  32. jentam Says:

I spend as time as I can with children. My son definitely keeps me young! I also eat a lot of fresh veggies and fruit, drink lots of water and try to stay active as much as I can. I also think it really helps to be optimistic and appreciate the life you have.

  33. Rachel Says:

Try to make healthy choices, play with my children and flirt with my husband. That is how I keep a hold of my youth!

  34. Pat Says:

I try to stay young by exercising regularly and otherwise maintaining a healthy lifestyle; i.e. organic foods, lots of water, no smoking, shop on the 'outside' aisles of the store (that keeps you away from processed foods), and keeping busy.

  35. Christina Says:

I am working on that one! I am trying not to let deadlines stress me out, and eat more local and fresh food.

  36. Teresa Says:

    I eat well!

  37. Mystique Says:

I drink lots and lots of water!

  38. Debbie Says:

I don't! I enjoy every year I've lived, learned to love the grey hairs, even though I cover them, came to terms with a few sags and wrinkles, and continue to live life. I struggled a little with turning 50, until I stopped to consider the alternative, and then just got on with living again. I play mixed and lady's hockey and softball, I camp, fish, hike and play with my grandkids every chance I get. As a result, they treat me like I'm 6 years old, and know I'm always game for a bit of street hockey, a skate, a fishing trip, or a nice long hike. I even got ID'd while buying beer last summer! So, I don't bother with trying to stay young, I just enjoy living. Works for me.

  39. Bruce H Says:

Lifelong learning. I am studying drawing and painting. In the last class, the teacher talked about how children see things and how it changes as we mature. The art lessons are challenging. Art works the brain, mind, soul, emotions, and hands and forges new pathways in their interrelationships.

  40. Sue Says:

I have to say exercise is a must. Smile and be kind to others. I am a positive thinker. I love my two bulldogs;pets are very important; expecially if you don't have kids. Learn to love yourself. Don't sweat the small stuff. Live in the now.

  41. Mary Bart Says:

I eat healthy and think young.

  42. Anne Marie Says:

I walk daily with a friend and eat healthy.

  43. Vickey Says:

To enjoy everyday as if were your last day.Don't worry about little things. I take my dog for a walk everyday the smell of the trees, and the neighbours Apple pie, makes me not waiting for the next day to come to smell the aromas in the air. Live Love Laugh is the best Medicine.

  44. Josip Says:

I just make sure I have time to relax. Minimizeing the amount of stress in my life is definitely a priority.

  45. Cecilyanne Says:

Feeling young is purely in one's mind. I look in the morror every morning, and I still see the 20 year old I was 30 years ago. I accept my mirror image, which allows me the self-confidence to be, act and feel exactly that, young. Working at the local community college allows me plenty of contact with young people. I joke with them, encourage them, and in turn they smile, and look at me for who I am, not what age I may have on my driver's licence. Loving your life, loving your job, and enjoying all people, regardless of their age, is my key to youthfulness.

  46. Karen Says:

Positive thinking, looking for the good in others and not sweating the small stuff.

  47. pauline Says:

celebrate your inner child...laugh, play, be curious and silly..and...don't take yourself too seriously..:)

  48. Chris Says:

I try to exercise by walking, doing weights and eating healthy. It's sometimes hard to stay on track, but if you go off track, you pick yourself up and start again. Thinking young, being happy and having friends, makes me feel young.

  49. Veronica Says:

I walk daily at lunch for 1 hour with friends from work. I do yoga when I can and weight training and cardio routines when I can keep myself motivated. I eat a high fibre diet and only prepare foods from scratch, also drink Kefir that I make myself. I use only natural items on my face and drink lots of water. I am 43 and don't look it or feel it. I find that walking keeps my stress at bay and helps me find solutions to problems. It is alot of work but the benefits are much better then not doing it.

Now that they are "teens" I have mostly young friends, I'm involved with current music, TV shows, schools young people. I sometimes forget how old I really am until one of them says "Mom, stop that" while I'm singing to the radio or trying to talk the talk. Age is a matter of mind, your as young as you feel physically and mentally!

4)Enjoy music. I sing in three choirs and play the organ at church.
5)Don't waste time thinking about getting old. Just enjoy each day as it comes.
