5 reasons why bananas will boost your health

1. Bananas are just as beneficial for you as a sports drink.

Not only do bananas have many of the same benefits as sports drinks, studies show that they can have some additional benefits. Bananas have antioxidants, potassium, Vitamin B6 and fiber, whereas many sports drinks are often chock full of artificial colours, flavours and refined sugars.

2. Bananas could reduce your risk for a stroke.

While the studies are still ongoing, research has shown that people with a low amount of potassium in their diet were 1.5 times more likely to have a stroke than those with the highest amount of potassium in their diet. Bananas are a great natural source of potassium in your diet.

3. Bananas may help soothe ulcers.

Bananas may have an antacid effect on the stomach so some studies have shown that it can have benefits when treating ulcers.

 4. Bananas can help boost your mood.

Bananas contain the amino acid tryptophan that in combination with vitamin B6 (which is also in bananas) can help convert tryptophan into serotonin, a neurotransmitter in the body that helps regulate mood. While unfortunately they can’t cure full-on depression, noshing on one may help give you a little boost.

 5. Bananas can help you lose weight.

Bananas have about 105 calories each and provide a great source of energy. We’re not saying go bananas and eat as many as you want, but they’re a great healthy snack. Pair one with some raw, unsalted almonds and you’re good to go.
