Spectro-tastic!

Congratulations to 'Bev Hatcher', who has won our Boot Camp Diaries Day 31 contest and will receive a fabulous Spectro HydraCare Simple, Smart Skin Care Prize Pack valued at over $250!

On Boot Camp Day 31, I asked how you reward and treat yourself without pigging out at restaurants. Bev told us:

"I like to go out to eat with my husband and sometimes my family, but I am on a different diet than they are, so I usually measure and cook my protein before we go out and I put it in a snack bag to go with me. Then my husband orders whatever he wants and I order a tossed salad with no dressing and lemon wedges on the side. I then add my protein and squeeze of lemon. I enjoy my meal knowing that I am eating healthy and I will feel better for it."

Wow. That is dedication. Thanks for inspiring us, Bev, and enjoy your prize!

The Boot Camp Diaries, Day 31 - Eating in and a chance to WIN

I am drooling as I write this.

I am drooling as I write this.

Since we started Boot Camping, I've been cooking at home a lot more and I really enjoy preparing healthy meals.

But I do miss eating at restaurants. And it's not just the food I miss. (Although I do miss the food . . . and the beer.) I mostly miss the act of going out to eat.

Even if you're in the habit of going out a few times a week, eating at a restaurant still feels like a special occasion. And since it's a special occasion, why not order a side of gravy for your fries?

So I miss it. I miss catching up with friends over a drink while we wait for our big fat meals to magically appear. It makes me happy, and in the short, cold days of February, this is no small feat.

How do you replicate this 'special occasion' feel — but without saddling up to the trough? How do you find comfort and happiness — hold the fries?

Let us know — and Subscribe To This Blog — and you’ll be eligible for a chance to WIN a Spectro HydraCare Simple, Smart Skin Care Prize Pack valued at over $250! New and existing email and RSS subscribers who respond to my question above will be eligible to WIN.

The Boot Camp Diaries, Day 26 - Weekend treats

Delicious. Who knew?

Delicious. Who knew?

Do you have any idea how delicious fruit is?

I really had no idea. I picked up some pre-washed, pre-cut strawberries, pineapple and kiwi on a whim at the grocery store the other day and I was blown away by how much I enjoyed it.

I snacked on it while I made dinner last night (Quick Fisherman's Stew) and it kept my hands and mouth too busy for me to bother pouring myself a glass of wine. No small feat.

And while I suddenly find fruit to be a surprisingly tasty snack, I still can't accept the idea of having it for dessert. Even fruity pies are suspect. I am unwavering in my belief that dessert should be chocolaty (and preferably gooey).

So you can imaging my delight when I came across a Chocolate Fondue recipe this afternoon. It meets all the criteria for an indulgent little weekend reward: It's chocolaty! It's gooey! It includes my new BFF, fruit! And you can spike it with amaretto, brandy or rum!

Each tablespoon has 64 calories, 6 grams of fat, 4 grams of carbs and a gram of fibre, which makes it a reasonable weekend treat to reward another successful week of healthy living with Boot Camp.

How will you reward yourself this weekend?

The Boot Camp Diaries, Day 9 - Better habits, better you.

Boot Camp is helping me to develop great habits, like working out each day and eating right.

And working out and eating right have given me a lot more energy.

I'm re-investing this energy into developing more great habits. Instead of drinking beer in front of the TV, I'm spending more time outside with my dogs. Instead of plowing back chicken wings at the local pub, I enjoy preparing new healthy recipes.

So far, Boot Camp is giving me more than I bargained for — and it's only Day 9.

What unexpected rewards are you garnering from Boot Camp so far?

The Boot Camp Diaries, Day 5 - Enter to WIN an Adidas prize pack!

Day Five's newsletter talked about the importance of including a little bit of your favourite treat in your Boot Camp menu so that you're not overcome by cravings.

That's a good way to keep yourself on track.

Another great strategy is to reward yourself when you meet your goals — and remember to set small goals along the way to your ultimate goal. Plan to give yourself a little reward for every five days in a row that you've worked out, or for every 5 pounds you've lost.

When I've completed Boot Camp, I'm going to reward myself with some fancy new workout duds so that I'll finally have something snazzy to wear to the gym. You can win yourself some snazzy duds by visiting our 'Contests' page and entering to WIN a fabulous prize pack of Adidas workout wear.
