This is how Rosita keeps her heart healthy: "I try to limit my sodium intake as well as engaging in physical activity 30 minutes daily. The most important thing for me, personally, is to have a lot of love- that's the most important thing for your heart! :-)"

Thanks to everyone for the great advice!

So many contests, so many winners during Bikini Boot Camp

Congratulations to roxy, who has won our Day 14 contest by telling us about her bad habits with salt.

roxy says:

"Well I think I’ve always had a thing for salt. I remember being a child out for dinner and shaking some in my hand and licking it and I did this many times it was a habit (like I was a horse?). This seems really silly right and I’m sure I’m the only child who did this but now I see why I used to get yelled at! I know why it was so bad but still this salt craze continues. Anything salty I want. Feta cheese, chips, popcorn, fries etc. I will put salt on everything I have been shaking less these days but its so hard not to just think the meal needs it!"

roxy has won a great prize pack from Mrs. Dash, containing all 12 flavours of Canada’s favourite salt-free, flavour-full seasoning plus a step counter and a jump rope.

Congratulations to Carla, who has won our Day 24 contest by telling us how she handles stress.

Carla says:
"I’m very bad at keeping stress inside and then it all snowballs into one big cry/yell fest."

Carla, it sounds like you really need this prize. The Thrive Diet promises to help you achieve optimal heath through stress-busting, plant-based whole foods.

Let us know how it works out!

The Bikini Boot Camp Diaries, Day 21 - And the winners are . . .

Congratulations to mary and Shawna Sanderson who have won our Day 15 contest by telling us about how they like to enjoy their favourite vegetable.

mary says:
"My favourite would have to be tomatoes, since they are so easy and fast growing, I love to eat them sliced on hot toast with some butter and freshly cracked pepper on top, what an eye opener to start the day. I am always sad to see the last of them be devoured in the fall, my mind though goes to the next summer and thoughts of growing and enjoying them all over again"

gardeningShawna Sanderson told us:
"My favourite are peas right out of the garden. When I was around 5 years old, I used to have a hey day in my grandmother’s garden sitting in the dirt and eating all the peas right outta the shell!"

I used to do exactly the same thing at my grandmother's. This year, I'm planting peas of my own for the first time with help from Douglas Green’s new book, The Guide to Canadian Vegetable Gardening. And I'll be sending a copy of this great book to our winners.

Have you entered our Day 20 contest yet?

Congratulations to Sarah, who won our Day 4 contest by telling us about what inspires her.

Sarah says:
"I am inspired by my mother, and my best friends. My mom lost almost thirty pounds, one of my friends is constantly going to the gym and eating healthy (and I hate to be the chubby, chocolate-eating friend), and my other friend has decided to train for a marathon happening next May and she has never run a day in her life. With these three important women in my life, I know that I can succeed as they have."

Good stuff, Sarah. If we stick together, we'll all get there.

Sarah's prize is a copy of Never Say Diet: Make five decisions and break the fat habit for good, by Chantel Hobbs.

Don't forget to enter our Day 9, Day 7Day 6 and Day 3 contests for a chance to WIN great prizes!

18 days until Bikini Boot Camp - and Huguette wins!

A big congratulations to Huguette, who is one of the most active members of the Health & Wellness Club (and by "most active", I mean she posts a lot of great replies on the blog. I can't vouch for her workout routine, although I'm confident she's active in that respect as well . . .)

Anyway, Huguette has won our March 27 contest by telling us about a weird food craving she's had.

Hugette says:
"I crave olives, I guess it’s because I am trying to cut down on salty foods and olives are very salty?? Go figure!!!"

Amen to that! I get the olive craving a lot, too. They're a tasty treat, indeed.

Hugette wins a copy of The Skinny on Losing Weight Without Being Hungry: The ultimate guide to weight-loss success, by Louis J. Aronne, M.D.

And the winners are . . .

prize_twoWow. Either you guys really like contests, or you really hate colds. Either way, we had an absolutely outstanding response to our March 13 contest.

Here are our four winners. Each will win a Cold Survival Kit sponsored by the new zinc-based cold remedy, ZICAM. Each kit includes a hot water bottle with cover and blanket, a mug, green tea, chicken noodle soup, essential oils and a holder, bathtub salts, a $25 Chapters gift certificate and a selection of crossword and sudoku puzzles.

We asked you to tell us how you nurse yourself back to health when you’re under the weather.

Nikki says:
"Rest & warmth work for me! I love my heated blanket, honey lemon tea and the couch with Ellen & Oprah for some company!! Though if I am feeling really bad, I combine all of this with a phone call to mom so she can come over and make her famous chicken soup (I still need to get that recipe!) and take care of me. I admit, I am 30 and still need my mom when I am feeling terrible, she always makes me feel better, so I would have definitely have to share this awesome prize with her:)"

korona23 says:
"The first thing I try to do is call in sick! There’s nothing worse than spreading your germs around and having people hate you! It’s really important to contain your virus and that means staying home and washing your hands frequently so as not to get your family sick as much as possible.

Your body is telling you it needs to rest. So rest! It’s very hard to do in this incredibly punishing work-world and fast-paced home life, but the best thing you can do is just chill out, drink lots of fluids, sleep as much as you can and think positive thoughts. It’s not much more complicated than that!"

Margaret Snyder says:
"When I am feeling the cold coming on, I drink plenty of fluids, get plenty of rest, make and eat soups, apply mentholated rub to my chest and nose and I chat with my mum because even though I am a nurse, I still need her to tell me what to do when I am sick. Motherly comfort, to me, is still one of the best remedies to make me feel better."

SusanT says:
"I very rarely get a cold as I believe working in the school system has given me a stronger immune system - but for the rest of my family…home made chicken soup is great, and a humidifier at night in the room is also helpful."

And we also have a grand prize winner who has won a Honeywell ‘Quiet Care’ humidifier and a light therapy lamp, courtesy of the new zinc-based cold remedy, ZICAM.

Eva Mc says:
"I had the worst cold ever this past month and I basically collapsed on the couch and waited until it ended. My fantastic husband took very good care of me and I’d love to win so that I could use it to take care of him the next time he falls ill."

Congratulations to all our winners! And don't forget to enter our Sports Clutz contest, which runs until Monday, April 6.

And the winner is . . .

Congratulations to Jeannine, who has won our February 27 contest. Her prize is a copy of  Dr. Georgia Andrianopoulous' book, Retrain Your Brain, Reshape Your Body: The Breakthrough Brain-Changing Weight-Loss Plan.

We asked what stresses you out and sends you snacking. Jeannine told us:

"Retraining my Brain and Reshaping my Body is exactly what I need….I’m getting married this September!

What stresses me out and sends me snacking? Oh gosh, what doesn’t? Let’s see…

planning my wedding
financial strain
my 10 yr old
having just put down my ill cat
my noisy upstairs neighbour
the chance I might lose my job
not having enough put into my RSP

…should I go on?

Yes, I know I’ll feel better while on my honeymoon…but then again I’ll be stressed out worrying about my child while I’m away. Then again, I’ll be worrying about the bills that will be waiting for me too! Ahh! Help me!

I take comfort in chocolate. Chocolate good. Mmmm."

Yes, chocolate good, indeed. Congratulations, Jeannine!

And the winner is . . .

Congratulations to Marilyn, who won our Scanpan giveaway for telling us how she handled her fitness plateau.

Marilyn says:

"While staying on track with diet and exercise I hit a plateau for a few weeks. I decided to eat more of my favourite vegetables in addition to my current intake and added two more hours of exercise (walking) for the week. I had been working out (moderate aerobics) three times a week for an hour. The plateau broke and I dropped two pounds that week. I am learning to maintain my weight now and am eating less if I exercise less and eating more filling, lower-fat foods when exercising more. So far so good!"

Marilyn has won a 28 cm (11″) Scanpan frypan and kitchen accessories.

The Scanpan Classic line of cookware is made of high-quality ceramic titanium that’s designed to keep its shape and eliminate hot spots when cooking. It’s dishwasher-safe and ovenproof to 260 degrees Celsius. Plus, its non-stick coating can’t be damaged by metal, so you don’t have to worry about which utensil to use.

Congratulations Marilyn!
