Canadian Living Home & Garden blog: The best of 2013

‘Tis the season for retrospectives, and, being the nostalgic soul that I am, I wanted to take this opportunity to look back at the Canadian Living Home & Garden blog’s most popular posts of 2013.

Not only is it fascinating for me to see which blog posts positively blow up on the net, but it’s also serves as a bit of a time capsule that sums up the biggest news and trends on the Canadian decorating scene over the past 12 months.

Which brings me to #5 on the top five blog posts of 2013:

5. Pretty pastel bathroom inspiration

The return of Art Deco began in the fall of 2012, but—in a bizarre twist—the unexpected delay in the theatrical release of The Great Gatsby had the strange effect of diluting this trend at the very moment it was taking off. Nevertheless, with the film’s eventual release in spring 2013, Art Deco influences spread throughout the home, including the bathroom. In this post, I shared a pale, powdery palette from Behr Paints that would bring a hit of jazz-age glamour to any space:

4. The many lives of my Ikea Kaustby chair.

Just how many times can you make-over the same piece of IKEA furniture? Check out this post to find out the answer.

3. Beautiful, budget-friendly wallpaper at Bouclair.

In April 2013, Bouclair added pretty patterned wallpapers to their inventory, and you loved it. You really, really loved it.

2. Top 10 home finds at Hudson’s Bay.

When Creative Director of Home Fashions at Hudson’s Bay, Arren Williams, offers to take you on a guided tour of the brand’s flagship store, you say YES. This post shares my fave finds on the day.

And, the award for most popular blog post of 2013?

1. Top 5 picks from the new IKEA 2014 catalogue.

You honestly don’t want to know how many of these IKEA bargains I’ve bought since publishing this in early August 2013. In my defense, it was a pretty stellar year for the Swedish design powerhouse, with the release of one of my all-time favourite collections, the new Stockholm series.
