Remember how the computer age was supposed to save us from drowning under piles of paperwork? Well, it's true – it really can. There are two ways you can instantly cut back on paperwork:
1. Use online banking
Instead of paying bills by cheque or using the bank machine, use online banking for the greatest paper savings. (Phone banking works as well, but it's not nearly as easy to use.)
2. Choose paperless billing
Many companies now allow you to choose an electronic version of your statement instead of a paper bill in the mail. Take advantage of this where you can and you'll be saving time and paper – plus you'll have that much less to drag to the curb. Some paperless billing works through online banking, and other kinds will send you an email when your bill is ready. I get an email every month with the total of my phone bill – pay it immediately and you're done, no paper shuffling necessary.
There are other tips as well, like receiving electronic versions of financial reports from your investments, but I leave them to you: How do you cut back on the reams of paper clogging your filing cabinet?
Today's code word: paperwork
