Friday Travel Photo: Deer in the Backyard, Owen Sound, Ontario

Depending where you live in Canada, it's quite likely you have to travel hundreds, if not thousands, of kilometres to see wildlife roaming freely. I've visited the Haliburton Forest Wolf Centre on the border of the Algonquin Park in Ontario just to see the carnivorous mammals in a protected setting but not restricted to a cage. And I've trekked to Killarney Provincial Park on the shores of Georgian Bay, Ontario, to glimpse moose foraging for food.

But how many people can brag about seeing deer in the wild - through their back window?

This week's Friday Photo is actually a trio of images that my cousins, Brian and Rosanne Gallinger of Owen Sound, Ontario, took from their livingroom window. They live just on the outskirts of town, not in a remote bush settlement. What makes these photographs so special, for me, is that my cousins' home, where deer (and, upon occasion, bear) wander up to the house, is less than a 10-minute drive to the nearest Tim Horton's Drive-Thru.
