No money? The best gifts are free!

When you're a kid, Christmas is magic. Twinkly lights! Chocolate Santas! A tree inside the house?! Prezzies. And you don’t have to worry about spending a dime.

Then you grow up and you get to play Santa and make Christmas happen. Get the turkey, host the happy family get-togethers. Buy the gifts. And surprise, it all adds up to a lot of money.

But a lot of us don’t have a lot of money to spare this year. Does that mean we can’t give or receive? Will the spirit of Christmas just pass us by? No. In fact, the season can be special without spending any cash. Let the spirit move you.

Where on earth is the love? It’s here! Inside you and all around. Close your eyes, believe in the spirit and make the magic happen

Doesn’t this just make you happy? They did this for people shopping in a mall during the holidays last year.

It’s the music because one thing I know is that music speaks to our soul. The lyrics, the notes, the melodies, the strength of a beautiful voice is a gift.

Also, one more thing. It’s fun to sing. Go sing with people at a retirement home. Or visit someone in the hopspital and bring them music. Throw a party and sing Christmas carols. It’s fun.

Money can’t buy you time: the meek and the arrogant, the millionaires and the movie stars, the CEOs and the homeless – we all get the same
I've often thought If I win the lottery I will buy myself a couple extra hours every day to do everything I need to.

Guess what? Congrats, every morning when you wake up and take a breath, you win!

Yes, this is a busy time of year. So much to do, so many people to see. But this is also the time of year to listen to your heart.

Go to the kids’ holiday concert and enjoy the moment. Bake a batch of cookies with your mom. Get cuddly on the sofa and watch a movie with your partner on a Saturday morning.

What price, peace? Where can I find joy? Wrap up a little goodwill for everyone, please
For asking the woman at the convenience store if she is feeling better, no cost.

For taking the time to decorate cupcakes with a child and getting icing all over the kitchen and yourselves when you have a Christmas dinner to prepare? No charge.

For being nice to your coworkers, take your money back and keep the change. Seriously, it’s no good here.

For placing your hand on your partner’s heart so you can hear it beating, looking him or her in the eye and saying, I love you. Amazing.

For making a point to giving somebody a hug because they’re sad this season? Priceless.

Give the gift of all the things we cannot see but that are most real in life
When eight-year-old Virginia asked the editor of New York’s Sun in 1897, if there really was a Santa Claus, he replied with what has since become history’s most reprinted newspaper editorial.

You may tear apart the baby’s rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived, could tear apart. Only faith, fancy, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and plicture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? ...In all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.
