Travel Talk: 5 great gifts for travellers

Holiday gifts: Good to go! So what do you get for the traveller on your list? Of course, it depends on where they're going, how they travel and what kind of holiday they enjoy. In the past twelve months I've been lucky enough to go hiking in Wales, kayaking in Nevada, chocolate-eating in Belgium, pub-hopping in London, sightseeing in the Yukon, ice-skating in Victoria, B.C. and horse-back riding in the Dominican Republic. I've been a 'light' adventurist, and at times I've been a committed couch potato in my travels. All of which leads me to one observation: I'm a guy of diverse needs when it comes to travel accessories. Here's my list of 5 best gifts for the traveller on your list (everything costs less than $100 and one as little at $8.75!) 1) Capture Camera Clip: For the traveller who: doesn't want to carry a heavy camera around his/her neck (that'd be me, for sure) and wants quick and easy access to snap a photo when the opportunity presents itself - usually without notice. The lightweight Capture Camera Clip from Peak Design is sturdy, innovative and dependable. Price:$79.99 [caption id="attachment_14428" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Camera Clip This handy camera clip makes for easy and quick access to your SLR camera.[/caption]

These Sprout Watches (one for the All-around Classic, another for the Adventure Seeker and a third for Beach/Pool Side) are made from corn resin, diamonds mined in an environmentally and socially-conscious manner, bamboo, cork and other recycled material. Price:$80. [caption id="attachment_14427" align="aligncenter" width="214"] Sprout Watch My new Sprout Classic: eco-friendly, endurable and easy on the eye[/caption]

3) Jet/Set/Go Travel Speaker For the traveller who: likes good music while on the road but has no intention of packing an extensive sound system into his or her backpack. This tiny Jet/Set/Go speaker connects to portable audio sources and comes equipped with a USB cable,  storage pouch, and built-in rechargeable lithium battery. I've used this pocket-sized speaker with my iPhone4 and laptop and it works beautifully. (Plus, it gives me a much-needed break from overused ear-buds!) Available at select Loblaw banner stores and Real Canadian Superstores. Price: $17.
