Where are these 3,000 Santas going? Family holiday fun!

I love Christmas and try to savour every last drop of pepperminty, gingerbready, egg noggy goodness. Invite me to a gathering, and I’ll be there to celebrate the good cheer: Work parties, house parties, cookie exchanges, neighbourhood potlucks—bring ‘em on! This year, I convinced a group of families from my son’s hockey team (go Flames go!) to join the Santa PurSuit, a fun 5K in which everyone runs though the streets of Toronto in a bright red Santa suit (hat, beard, coat, pants, belt—no exceptions), then heads to the Ricoh Centre—sweaty, but jolly—to cheer the Toronto Marlies as they battle the St. John’s IceCaps. I’m always looking for fun ways my family can exercise together, so I signed up for the Santa PurSuit the moment I heard about it. My nine-year-old son plays hockey four to five times per week, and my husband and I play hockey, too, but we don’t all do it together. (This makes me envious of “ski families,” who can enjoy their chosen pastime as a family.) So if you’re in Toronto on Sunday, Dec. 15, come run with us. Better yet, get your whole family to join. Details and registration info here. Proceeds from the Santa PurSuit support the MLSE Foundation, which works to empower the lives of youth through sports and recreation. Not into running? Here’s a list of other awesome, fun things going on across the country: In Saskatoon, take the Enchanted Forest Holiday Light Tour on a horse-drawn carriage that holds up to 16 people. The Quebec City Lights Festival on Dec. 21, marks the winter solstice. It’s a blend of culture, history and heartwarming holiday traditions. In Vancouver, check out the Carol Ships Parade of Lights. Every night in the month of December, as many as 80 boats strung with some 100,000 lights parade around False Creek, Deep Cove and Port Moody. People can sail the ships or watch from shore, and there are sure to be bonfires, carol singing, hot chocolate and more. Know of anything festive and unique happening in your part of the country?
