Pets and the 2014 World Cup

If any of you have been following me on Twitter, you'll know I'm a huge soccer (ahem, football) fan. I grew up watching the sport because of my dad, and now, if there's any chance to catch a game, you'll see me first in line or glued to the television set. I was rooting for Spain in the 2014 World Cup -- they were, after all, the champions in 2010. But after a poor showing in the group stage, they're out, and now I'm not sure who I'm supposed to support. Any suggestions? I love how different companies and organizations have embraced the World Cup. The Internet and social media make sharing memes, videos and fan support so easy. When games are on and you're sitting at home alone, you simply have to log on to Twitter to 'watch' it with other fans around the globe. After the game is over, you can participate by sharing photos, videos and funny .gifs from the game. It's amazing! Even the Google Doodle changes every day according to who's playing. The best thing I've seen so far, however, are different ways people are involving their pets in the hype surrounding the World Cup. Klooff, a popular pet-photo sharing app, has identified user photos with the best team spirit and created a gallery of country-specific posters for each furry fan. In addition to immortalizing peoples’ love for the World Cup, the gallery illustrates a cultural shift in the way people celebrate their pets’ personalities and involve them in their everyday lives. Check out their slide show, below. [HTML1] Even better? Baby elephants in Nairobi, Kenya, are getting into the spirit of the Beautiful Game by playing soccer as part of their daily activities. And the best part? They know not to bite each other. I'm looking at you, Luis Suarez. [HTML2] For more stats and pets on the Internet, check out the 2014 Internet pet trends.
