New trend: Unplugged and tech-free weddings

Here comes the bride... And out come the cameras, iPhones and lately, iPads. While the idea of walking down the aisle to friends and family capturing special moments from your big day on video and camera may seem appealing, you might want to reconsider allowing this. Many couples are making it a point to ban technology at their weddings in order to get the best possible photos from their professional photographer. There's nothing worse than looking through your photos a few months down the road and seeing every image dotted with smart phones and iPads. (We're calling it a 21st century problem.) Besides, whatever happened to living in the moment? Another new trend stems around the use of social media. While more and more couples are choosing to include official wedding hashtags as part of the experience on their big day (usually a blend of the couple's names and the year), it seems that things are starting to get out of hand. Imagine this: You, the bride, have worked so hard for months to keep your wedding gown a secret from your significant other, in anticipation of the big day. When the wedding day finally rolls around, your plans are thwarted by one wayward Instagram post of you and your bridesmaids before the ceremony. An Instagram post that your hubby-to-be sees before meeting you in real time. All that effort for naught. Brides and grooms are now trying to take back control of their special day by imposing social media bans on their wedding day. This means no photos can end up on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram until after the wedding is over. [HTML1] Wedding planners advise couples choosing to go the social media-free route to inform guests of this well in advance of the big day by including the disclaimer on the invite or on the official wedding website. Another option is to add subtle reminders and signs as part of the decor during the wedding.
