5-year-old gets billed a 'no-show fee' for failing to attend his friend's birthday party

birthday cupcake A 5-year-old was billed for not showing up to his friend's birthday party. Alex Nash was invited to a party being held at a ski and snowboarding facility just before Christmas. The invitation was accepted by his parents on behalf of the boy. On the day of the party, his parents realized that Alex had a previous commitment but couldn't locate the contact details for the birthday boy which resulted in a no-show for Alex. This would, no doubt, be upsetting for the birthday boy and utterly frustrating for his parents but would this warrant sending a 5-year-old an official "no-show fee" invoice? Alex's parents found the invoice in a brown envelope in his schoolbag last week. "It was a proper invoice with full official details and even her bank details on it" said Mr. Nash. "I can understand that she's upset about losing money. The money isn't the issue, it's the way she went about trying to get the money. She didn't treat me like a human being." Mr. Nash has been told that this will be escalated to small claims court if he refuses to pay the invoice. How do you feel about this situation? Do you think the birthday mom is justified in billing the child a no-show fee? photo courtesy of F_A seelensturm/flickr
