Join a virtual food fight to raise awareness about the impact of hunger in Canada

While 97 percent of Canadians recognize that food consumption impacts a child’s ability to learn in the classroom, only a minority -- 44 percent -- know just how many students are going to school hungry in Canada. These stats come from an Ipsos Reid poll conducted for Breakfast for Learning. “We know that there is a direct correlation between hunger and learning,“ says Kelly Berlinic, Breakfast for Learning's Director of Community Development. “Breakfast for Learning is committed to bridging the gap by helping fund school meal programs across the country. We hope that through #foodfight, Canadians will join us, spread the word, and help reinforce the message that no student should go hungry in our country.” To draw awareness about these glaring numbers and the true impact of hunger on kids in Canada, Breakfast for Learning is hosting a virtual food fight using the hashtag #FoodFight. The innovative and fun -- yet important -- campaign runs online from Monday, March 23 to Friday, March 27, 2015 -- and you, your friends and your family are invited to participate! Help raise awareness about a worthwhile cause that might hit closer to home than you know. Here's how you can participate: Follow Breakfast for Learning on Twitter at @breakfastlearn and Like their Facebook page. Once you do that, participate from your own social media accounts and use the hashtag #FoodFight to engage your friends and followers. Breakfast for Learning has created a wonderful selection of gifs that you can use to 'throw' food virtually. Each gif, while graphically stunning, also comes with a very important awareness message. Like this one: [HTML1] Breakfast for Learning will be sharing more gifs through their social media accounts all week, so be sure to follow along, like, share, retweet and spread awareness of this issue. This campaign hits close to home for us at Canadian Living, so we will be participating through our Twitter and Facebook accounts, too. Be sure to follow us, if you aren't already. This is one food fight you won't want to miss.
