Is public shaming an effective way to get through to your teen?

Have you seen this video? [HTML1] It's a video of a mom shaming her 13-year-old daughter for posing as a 19-year-old on facebook. The child had posted racy photos of herself saying she was a 'freak'. "You've got a Facebook page, and you're on there with your bra on, right? Is that what you do? Some little girl in some lace panties that you know you don't own. You still wear panties that say Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday." the mom is heard saying as her daughter begins to cry."Don't cry now. You wasn't crying when you was posting pictures on Facebook, was you? In a bra?" This is a very serious issue that shouldn't be glossed over. Her daughter is still quite young and hasn't fully grasped the severity of putting something like that online. Hats off to the mom for taking a stand and showing her a little bit of tough love. I don't condemn her for disciplining her child. I do, however, condemn the method in which she did it. How can you ever earn your child's respect by disrespecting them? What side of the fence are you on in regards to public shaming? Do you feel it is an effective way of getting through to your teen?
