Here's the Mother's Day card that Sophie made for me

Here's the Mother's Day card that Sophie made for me

Hello!  I had lovely Mother's Day despite a miserable cold and sore throat. (Hey, I'm just glad it's not swine flu. Though I did have a couple of glasses of white wine on Saturday night, so maybe it was 'wine' flu!)

My girls treated me to tea and peanut butter on toast in bed (thanks Dad for making that happen). They also gave me my favourite gift - cards and art. (Honest - I love that stuff! See the cards above and below.) Liv also made me a precious bubblebee out of tiny glistening beads.

The highlight of my day was seeing our new neighbours - two fuzzy baby robins that hatched on Sunday.

We had been keeping an eye on the nest that sits on top of our neighbour's eavestrough, peering at it with binoculars out of our back second-floor window. Around noon, my husband, Len, spotted fluffy feathers poking out of the nest. We all watched, excitedly grabbing the binoculars out of each others' hands, as mama robin flew off and returned with lunch.

When it was my turn, I saw two tiny translucent beaks open wide, stretching up out of the nest as mama robin dropped a tiny wriggling worm into one. I swear, it was like a scene straight out a National Geographic film. Mother Nature couldn't have orchestrated a more delightful Mother's Day surprise for me.

Talk to you soon ... and I promise to share my chat with a former CIA spy.

Who could ask for more?

How sweet of your girls to pamper you on Mother's Day. You are one lucky lady and good for you. I also have a birds nest in one of our trees, I can't see them, but I can hear baby birds in there, it's a sure sign that summer is just around the corner. Can't wait to read about your chat with former CIA spy !! Is it Jack Byrnes (Robert DeNiro) from the movie Meet the Fockers ??

Last spring we watched the growth of four young robins whose parents had nested in the pergola just outside our back door. Watching mom and dad try to keep up with their demands for food was exhausting! One day they were no longer there. A few days later, as I was watering our back garden, one of the babies scooted out from under a plant and went chirping across the backyard. I then discovered there were two young ones living in the garden that had not yet learned how to fly. We managed to keep our dog away from them until they did. It was a great for the kids to watch life spring forth.

My neighbour has a dove's nest in her front porch. I love hearing them everyday "coo-ing".

I love my daughter's school creations as well. This year she did something different and on her own...it was really a surprise. She hand made a Mother's Day card and then mailed it to me! On her own. She told me, after I received the card, that she didn't have enough postage for the card and the lady at the post office put the extra amount herself! How cool is that?
