So much to celebrate!
There are so many things to celebrate this Sunday!
First off, it’s Father’s Day.
In my home, we have an awesome dad. My husband, Len, does more than his share of childcare and household chores. And last night he finished building our new deck – yeah!
I love it when Len picks outfits for our youngest daughter, Sophie, 7, to wear to school. You can bet she'll be decked out in a kaleidoscope of colours, patterns and textures that would make a fashionista cringe. But hey, he tries and Sophie’s happy. And that’s what counts, isn’t it?
This Sunday we are celebrating dad by letting him sleep in, bringing him breakfast in bed, and showering him with the girl’s artwork. Then we'll head over to Len’s dad’s house for a backyard bbq. (My own dad is several hours out of town and I will be honouring him a week later.)
This Sunday is also officially the first day of summer.
We have such long winters, that this season is definitely cause for celebration. We got a head start this week by visiting a farm on the Niagara Escarpment where we picked strawberries. There’s nothing like the sweet, fresh, yummy taste of homegrown berries to remind us that it's summer. I encourage everyone to get out to a local ‘pick your own’ farm this weekend.
Happy weekend everyone!
How will you celebrate? CONTEST TIME: One person will win a Canadian Living cookbook!

The first day of summer...yay! We will celebrate the first day of summer by working on the house's upkeep: cleaning, gardening, clearing out clothing that no longer fits so that we can donate it. Sunday is also Father's Day...we'll celebrate that by ordering in Chinese Food for dinner. Since we are so busy this weekend, we've postponed celebrating the first day of summer to next Sunday. My partner and I will arrange for a sitter and we'll clean up the motorcycle and enjoy a day-long ride. Maybe we'll go up north? Maybe we'll go to the Niagara region? Whatever. Wherever. That's the best way.

Strawberry shortcake! I went to the farmer's market today, bought some lovely fresh strawberries. Bought the Chapman's vanilla ice-cream to go with it. Will bake a white cake tomorrow. A taste to make my husband drool
but he has to share

Ah the first day of Spring! I started a weight loss journey May 24th when my family (husband and 2 sons) went away on their annual fishing trip with Grandpa. The 3 weeks they were away allowed me to purge all no-no foods from our home and get a jump start on eating well and exercising daily. I will reach my first mini-goal tomorrow morning -losing 20 pounds to date! Only 100 more to go.
It's also Father's Day, so we'll start with breakfast in bed and home-made cards for dad. Then we'll pick strawberries, go to an Air Show and return home for a barbecue with strawberries and whipped cream for dessert!

...I love the summer...I've just come back from picking up a few items at the store....I've purchased some Angel Food Cake, 2 pints of fresh Raspberries and a container of Whipped Topping...mmmmmmmmmm....you can imagine how yummy it'll taste eh?
I'll slice up the cake in layers, slather on the whipped topping, top each layer with tons of raspberry....and decorate the top with chocolate sprinkles.
Yum. Shouldn't we celebrate every summer day like this?

Just being outside and trying to enjoy those late evening rays of light (until close to 11 pm out here). And taking advantage of the great produce available at the farmer's market, waiting impatiently for the flowers to really take off and bloom. Most of all playing outside with the kids.
ps I won a Royal Wood cd recently but I can't figure out how to email you my address. I'm new to this whole blog thing. Please advise. Thanks

I enjoy being outdoors here in Canada. The nature is breathtaking, even just walking down the street in the neighborhood. All the beautiful trees, bushes, and blossoms, oh my! I intend to soak up the wonderful green sights, and take time to listen to the birds and reflect and meditate. It's so relaxing and I appreciate it. Walking has contributed to my back feeling better, as I have a painful slipped disc. I'm hoping to have chance to walk more with my husband, have my kids outdoors as much as possible, and not be glued to the TV or computer. We have agreed to a couple of hours of only, so they won't miss out on the wonderful outdoors.

We are celebrating by taking time to enjoy the little things that summer brings! We have been spending a lot of time out in the garden, mowing the lawn and relaxing in our lawn chairs! It is great to relish the weather and enjoy a slower pace of life!
