Back from holidays

First off, thanks to Kate for her reply to my last posting.

Kate, you are the proud winner of the latest cookbook by Canadian Living, "Make It Tonight." It's full of yummy recipes. (Send me your mailing address and register/sign up for this blog and I'll get "Make It Tonight" to you.)

I'm back to work at Canadian Living magazine and blogging after spending a glorious week in Picton, Ontario, with my family.

If you're not familiar with the area, the star attraction for the family set is the wonderful beaches that boast stunning dunes and stretches of sand that go on further than the eye can see. The main beach was perfect for my kids (7 and 10) because we could walk out about 50 metres into Lake Ontario and the water was only up to my waist. (Yes, it's actually clean water there and you can swim in it, which is a novel concept for this Toronto gal!)

We made sand castles on the beach with girls, swam and visited the nearby farmer's markets where we purchased the sweetest Ontario strawberries. And being a city girl, it was wonderful to spend Canada Day out in the country. The town put on an amazing fireworks display and served up scrumptous cake.

We didn't make it to any of the many lovely local wineries - ah, but that just gives me a reason to go back for a romantic weekend with my guy.

I'm a fair-weather camper and the forecast was dodgy so we stayed in at a bed and breakfast called One Main Street that I highly recommend if you visit the area. Our hosts were delightful and made the most amazing breakfasts.

Where will you be vacationing this summer?

Until next time, Kathryn

P.S. Watch out for the next contest. I hope to have it up later this week.

It's nice to hear that you and your girls enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, swimming in clean water, walking on the beach and playing in the sand and eating fresh home grown sweet strawberries. Good for you. My summer vacation is similar, the beach, sand ect.. my sister and her husband are renewing their wedding vows and it will be a fun weekend of camping, games with lots of relatives from all over.

We live on the west coast and things don't feel so simple for us anymore with a 17 yr.old, 15 yr.old and 11 yr old life is VERY busy. My eldest just made it on our provincial team for the Canada Summer Games in PEI, so she will be spending August there. We won't be able to see her compete because it just isn't in our budget. But it is wonderful that she will get to go!
On our family's agenda this summer, we will be camping in Kamloops, in Manning Park and taking our scout troop white water rafting....
    And dreaming about PEI.....

How wonderful that you are back, safe & sound. Blessed are we who have time to spend with our children.

We are still in research & planning stages. Personally, I would love to squeeze in a trip to either PEI or Nova Scotia...I've never been and would love to go.

Nice to hear about your vacation adventure. Somehow I missed your postings. We wont be going anywhere this summer, as we are settling back here. But I'm looking forward to visiting my mother and sister in law as its wonderful country where they are in Manitoba. My kids enjoy the outdoors there so much. I do appreciate the community center nearby that provides daily activities for my older son (12), while trying to get my youngest son (8) into some thing that interest him. (the day camp idea has few things to offer..)
