High/Low: Plastic-Bristle Mascara Wands

Being accused of something you didn't do is never a good feeling, not unless you've been wrongfully accused of wearing faux lashes.

A few weeks back my dude looked at me while I was on the way out the door and said, "It's Tuesday morning, why are you wearing fake eyelashes? It's a bit much don't you think?" Unknowingly he bestowed me with a wonderful compliment and confirmation that I've picked a winning mascara. In my beauty obsessed world having a good lash day is just as important as having a good hair day.

I don't have lash extension and I stopped using Latisse about a year ago so all my thanks goes to a plastic-bristle mascara brush. Have you tried them yet? I got hooked on the plastic wands in 2008 with the launch of CoverGirl Lash Blast and I've never returned to the old-school hairbrush-like ones. My favourite part about them is that you can do several coats and the slippery plastic brush will not clump—no matter how many times you run that wand through them.

The Chanel Inimitable Intense Mascara was the mascara I was wearing when Tom made his comment. It's a volumizing, lengthening and curling mascara. The small plastic spikes distributes the formula evenly leaving lashes separated and not clumped together. So it's pretty much everything you're after in a mascara, except the luxe price tag.

This month Cover Girl launched a new product for their NatureLuxe collection and it has a fantastic mini flexible plastic brush. The formula is beeswax based which leaves lashes with a lighter coating. I thought the product glided on beautifully from root to tip and it gave my lashes mega volume and length. It was easy to maneuver the miniature brush into the corners of my eyes—it caught every single itty bitty lash. The performance was similar to Chanel Inimitable Intense but not exactly the same high marks. However the price is a lot more budget friendly.

What's your favourite plastic-bristle mascara?
