Designer spotlight: Heidi Daus – plus giveaway!

It’s no secret that I’m enamoured with bejewelled accessories. My love affair cropped up when I hit puberty, which was also right around the time I first stumbled upon Heidi Daus Designs. As a cash-strapped teen there was no better place to shop than my grandmother’s and mother’s jewelry boxes. I frequently took it upon myself to rummage around their closets, borrowing purses, shoes and, most importantly, jewelry. Sorry, mum! One of my favourite pieces to “borrow” was a stunning Heidi Daus art deco–esque pavé dragonfly pin. I’d wear that blinged out bug with almost everything, from sweaters and blazers to leather and jean jackets.

Heidi Daus “Let Me Count The Ways” Earrings, $80.

Much like myself, Heidi Daus developed a taste for megawatt accessories at a young age. She was inspired by her grandmother’s grandiose collection of art deco–style accessories. Fast forward to 2012 and Daus has been a successful jewelry designer for over two decades.

Her overall design esthetic is inspired by art deco cuts blended with Mother Nature motifs. Many of her signature pieces involve insects, botanical themes and foreign lands she’s visited. Each one showcases crystals and stones that are set by hand, one by one. Small or large, every one of her pieces makes a major statement.

In honour of Daus’s visit to The Shopping Channel this week (she’ll be appearing at 10 p.m. on Thursday, October 4, and throughout the day on Friday, October 5) we’d like to give away a little something something from her current collection to one lucky Fashion & Beauty Blog reader. For your chance to win these lovely “Let Me Count The Ways” drop earrings (valued at $80) leave us a comment letting us know what your most beloved piece of costume jewelry is. A winner will be chosen at random.

Contest closes October 5, 2012, at 12:00 p.m. (EST). You can enter once only. You’re eligible only if you live in Canada and are of the age of majority in the province/territory you live in. Not open to any TC Media employees or the people they live with.

CONTEST CLOSED. Congrats REGINE35!
