Fashionable finds: Online shopping for Canadians

GUEST POST: Nicole Pulsinelli is a journalism graduate from Centennial College and one of Canadian Living’s newest web interns. Her interests include skincare, single estate teas and baking too many cookies.  She also considers herself somewhat of an online shopping pro. When she’s not baking up a storm or virtual window shopping she’s probably downtown eating at a new restaurant, because cookies don’t make great dinners.

Here’s her favourite fashionable boutiques when it comes to online shopping:

There was a time when I believed as a Canadian we got the short end of the online shopping stick. Shipping fees can be near criminal when ordering from across the border, on top of worrying if your parcel is going to get taxed upon arrival. This was before I realized Canada is housing a wealth of online boutiques just waiting to get acquainted with my PayPal account. Here are some of the best!

El Kartel

El Kartel

If you embrace a more urban lifestyle, or just like having that one edgier piece in your closet, El Kartel is a great place to check out. The styles displayed on the website are like wearable street art. Some brands you’ll come across are Cheap MondayPenfield and Jeffery Campbell.

Canada’s ultimate one-stop-shop for the online window shopper. You’ll find some great designer pieces that will help jazz up your wardrobe. Full disclosure, eLUXE has a phenomenally expansive sale department. It’s chock-full of amazing deals. Offers free shipping after $100.

Moulé

According to the shop’s biography it all started with one woman’s inspiration to capture the beauty of Marrakesh, Morocco. Lucky for us, that woman’s daughters now continue to fill their shop with pieces holding true to mom’s mission. The store offers a selection of elegant clothing from independent brand name designers such as Edun and Funktional. These looks are great for the sleek-styled professional woman.

Red Ribbon

Let’s go ahead and just award this Canada’s Anthropologie. You’ll never feel more hip than after browsing through these e-aisles. Their collections are easy to wear, well crafted, and did we mention hip?  We did, but it’s worth repeating. Some of the brands you’ll love are Free Peoplegood hYOUman, and Pink Stitch.

My Filosophy

There’s not always a fine line between modesty and being fashion forward, but this is something the minds at My Filosophy are great at. There are a ton of fabulous finds for the more mature fashionista. Look out for great labels such as Aventura, Deshabillé and Chloe Angus. Offers free shipping after $75.

Sexy Plus Clothing

Sexy Plus Clothing specializes in the size 14+ crowd. Styles range from work appropriate to club gear and from hip casuals to o0- la-la lingerie.  Whether your style is pinup goddess, beach bum or something a little bit more Breakfast At Tiffany’s, there is something for every woman.

Zone Orange Inc.

Zone Orange Inc. is a place where shop meets gallery, meets your imagination. It’s based in Montreal and while the website is mostly in French, the catalog is magnificent in every language. If you’re in the market for Canadian made jewelry, handbags or pillows made to look like adorably bloated animals (please see Hou Hou) amongst life’s other everyday essentials, this is really your one stop shop.
