Provincial parks
Prince Edward Island's size means most provincial parks and beaches are within an easy drive of Charlottetown. Families can choose from 11 camping parks and 12 day use parks, many of which offer free events and activities for kids: ultimate Frisbee, movie night, wet n' wild, face painting, newspaper crafts, bingo, Frisbee golf, rock artists and experimenting with science.

P.E.I.? Think potatoes!
And the annual Potato Blossom Festival, which runs from July 26–30 this year! Events include a mashed potato tug-of-war, an activity day for kids, fireworks, booths, exhibits, a food fair, parade, a petting zoo, a photo and poem contest and much more! For details, call 902-859-1865.

West Point Lighthouse Festival
P.E.I. has approximately 50 lighthouses, the last denizens of a bygone era. First generation lighthouses -- built before 1873 -- are octagonal; second generation lighthouses are square tapered.

From July 13–16, the West Point Lighthouse Festival features a boatload of fun: Children's Activities, Lobster Pan Races, a Street Parade, and boat races. These days West Point is a lighthouse museum, country inn, craft shop and restaurant.
