Finshed afghan is approx 137 x 114.5 cm (54 x 45 ins).
You need:
Patons Decor acrylic/wool blend yarn
(100 g balls) as follows:
Main Colour (MC) Winter White, 9 balls
Contrast A (A) Claret, 6 balls
5 mm crochet hook OR whichever hook you require to produce the tension
given below

One square = 23 cm (9 ins) square. Work to exact tension with specified yarn to obtain satisfactory results.

BCL = Beginning cluster
BTCL = Beginning treble cluster
CL = Cluster
sc3tog = Draw up loop in last st of square, draw up loop in sp between squares, draw up loop in first st of next square, yoh and draw through 4 loops.

With right sides together and A, backstitch squares together (for embroidery stitching diagram, click here), as shown in diagram, seen here.
To finish:
Join A with sl st to corner point at edge. [(24 sc along edge of square, sc3tog in corner, 24 sc along edge of square, 3 sc) 5 times, (24 sc along edge of square, 3 sc in point) once, (24 sc along edge of square, sc3tog in corner, 24 sc along edge of square, 3 sc) 4 times] twice. Sl st to first sc. Fasten off.
Make a matching pillow
With 2 balls of MC and 1 ball of A, work 8 squares as given for afghan. With right sides together and A, backstitch 4 squares together, checkerboard style, for pillow-cover Front. Rep for Back. With wrong sides together and edges even, crochet Front to Back as follows: Join A at 1 corner. [Work 1 sc in each st along edge, 3 sc in corner] 3 times. Insert pillow form. Work 1 sc in each st along rem edge. 3 sc in corner. Sl st to first sc.
Next rnd: Ch 1. Working from left to right, work 1 reverse sc in each sc. Sl st to first sc. Fasten off.
