V-neck edge

With MC, finish neck edge with a RS round of sc, working firmly to gauge of 12 sc = 4" (10 cm), switching to smaller hook if needed to achieve gauge.
V-neck edge Rnd 1: RS facing, join with sl st in 13th (13th, 13th, 13th, 13th, 15th, 15th, 15th) base ch at centre back of neck, ch 1, sc in same ch, sc in each remaining ch, [sc in each sc row edge, 2 sc in each dc row edge] of V-neck shaping. At point of V, sc in bottom of sc, repeat between [ ] to neck base ch, sc in each remaining ch, sl st in beg sc, fasten off – 78 (78, 78, 82, 82, 86, 90, 90) sc.
Mark the sc at the centre point of V.

Neck band
With CC, make a 1" (2.5 cm) wide band of ribbing with a crossover front at the V. The first row of ribbing begins directly on 5 sc of neck, then is worked sideways around the neck. The last rows are made in the spare loops behind the first row.
Row 1 (WS): With CC and smaller hook, WS facing, join with sl st in back lp only of marked centre point sc, sk same sc, sctbl in each of next 5 sc, turn – 5 sc.
Row 2 (RS): Ch 1, sctbl in each of next 5 sc, sl st in each of next 2 sc of neck, turn.
Row 3 (WS): Sk next 2 sl st, sctbl in each of next 5 sc, turn.
Repeat Rows 2-3 around all sc of neck until you reach the 5 sc of neck previously worked in Row 1.
Underlap Row 1: Ch 1, sctbl in each of next 5 sc, working behind previous sc of Row 1, sl st in each of next 2 spare lps of neck, turn.
Underlap Row 2: Sk next 2 sl st, sctbl in each of next 5 sc, turn.
Repeat Underlap Rows 1-2, then Underlap 1 once more, ending with sl st in last spare lp, fasten off, leaving a few inches of tail for sewing. Thread tail on yarn needle. On inside of neckline, sk centre point sc, and holding last row together with next 5 sc going up V-neck behind other end of band, whip-stitch together, fasten off.
