Materials needed
• Colour A: 20 g / 60 yds purple in sport weight
• Colour B: 20 g / 60 yds pink in sport weight
• Colour C: 20 g / 60 yds green in sport weight
• Colour D: 20 g / 60 yds white in sport weight
• Colour E: 20 g / 60 yds coral in sport weight
• Colour F: 20 g / 60 yds yellow in sport weight
• 1 yd dark brown or black embroidery thread
• Crochet hook size D-3 (3.25 mm)
• Yarn needle or curved upholstery needle
• Cotton batting
Directions
Base
Using colour A, ch 4.
1: Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across (3 sc). Ch 1, turn.
2: Sc in first st, 2 sc in next st, sc in last st (4 sc). Ch 1, turn.
3: 2 sc in first st, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, 2 sc in last st (6 sc). Ch 1, turn.
4-5: Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn.
6-9: 2 sc in first st, 1 sc in each st across, ending 2 sc in last st. Ch 1, turn.
10-14: Sc in each st across (14 sc). Ch 1, turn.
15: Work dec sc over first 2 sts. Sc in each st across (13 sc). Ch 1, turn.
16-17: Work dec sc twice over first 4 sts, sc in each st across to last 4 sts, dec sc twice over last 4 sts. Ch 1, turn.
18: Dec sc over first 2 sts, sc in next, dec sc over last 2 sts (3 sc). Ch 1.
Build body
19: Working into each st and row-end around entire base, *2 sc in first st, sc in each of next 2 sts. Repeat from * around (56 sts). Join with a sl st to first st. Ch 1, turn.
20: *2 sc in first st, sc in each of next 3 sts. Repeat from * around (70 sc). Join with a sl st to first st. Ch 1, turn.
21: Sc in each st around. Join with a sl st to first st. Fasten off colour A.
22: Attach colour B at the tip of the tail (the pointy end). Sc in same st as joining and in each st around. Join with a sl st to first st. Ch 1, turn.
23-24: Sc in each st around. Join with a sl st to first st. Ch 1, turn. At the end of row 24, fasten off colour B.
25: Attach colour C to tip of tail. Sc in same st and in each of next 2 sts, dec sc over next 2 sts, *sc in each of next 3 sts, dec sc over next 2 sts. Repeat from * around (56 sc). Join with a sl st to first st. Ch 1, turn.
26-27: Repeat rnds 23-24. At the end of row 27, fasten off colour C.
28: Attach colour D to tip of tail. Work 3 sc in same st, sc in each st around (58 sc). Join with a sl st to first st. Ch 1, turn.
29-30: Work 3 sc in first st, sc in each st across, ending with 3 sc in last st (66 sc). Join with a sl st to first st. Ch 1, turn. Fasten off D.
31: Attach colour E, repeat rnd 28 (68 sc).
32: Dec sc over first 2 sts, sc in each st around to last 4 sts, (dec sc) twice over last 4 sts (65 sc). Join with a sl st. Ch 1, turn.
33: Work (dec sc) twice over first 4 sts, sc in each st around to last 2 sts, dec sc over last 2 sts (62 sc). Join with a sl st. Fasten off colour E.
34: Attach colour A to tip of tail, sc in same st (dec sc) twice over next 4 sts, sc in each st across to last 4 sts (dec sc) twice over last 4 sts (58 sc). Join with a sl st. Ch 1, turn.
Before starting next row, eyeball the centre st of the front and mark with a safety pin.
35-36: Work (dec sc) twice over first 4 sts, sc across, working dec st over 2 sts on each side of the centre front (dec sc) twice over last 4 sts (46 sc). Join with a sl st. Ch 1, turn. Fasten off A at end of row 36.
37-38: Attach colour B, repeat rnd 35 (34 sc).
39: Work (dec sc) 3 times over first 6 sts, sc in each st across to last 6 sts (dec sc) 3 times over last 6 sts (28 sc). Join with a sl st. Fasten off B.
40-41: Attach C, work (dec sc) twice over first 4 sts, sc in each st around to last 4 sts (dec sc) twice over last 4 sts (20 sc). Join with a sl st. Ch 1, turn. Fasten off C at end of row 41.
Head
Using D, ch 20. Without twisting chain, join with a sl st to form a circle. Ch 1.
1: Sc in each st around (20 sc). Join with sl st to first sc. Ch 1, turn.
2: *Sc in each of first 3 sts, 2 sc in next st. Repeat from * around (25 sc). Join with a sl st. Ch 1, turn.
3: *Sc in first st, 2 sc in next. Repeat from * around, ending with sc in last st (37 sc). Join with a sl st. Fasten off D. Ch 1, turn.
4-5: Attach colour E at any point, repeat row 2, ending with sc in last st.
6: *Sc in each of first 5 sts, dec sc over next 2 sts. Repeat from * around, ending sc in last st (49 sc). Join with a sl st. Fasten off E.
7-8: Using colour A, repeat row 6.
9: Sc in each st around (36 sc). Fasten off A.
10-12: Using B, repeat rnd 9. At end of rnd 12, fasten off B.
13-15: Using C, repeat rnd 6, ending with sc in last st. At end of rnd 15, fasten off C.
16: Using D, *sc in first st, dec sc over next 2 sts. Repeat from * around. Continue working in this pattern until 3 sts remain. Fasten off.
Firmly stuff head and body with cotton batting, then firmly sew openings together.
Foot (make 2)
Using colour F, ch 9.
1: Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across (8 sc). Ch 1, turn.
2-4: Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn.
5: Dec sc over first 2 sts, sc in each st across, dec sc over last 2 sts. Ch 1, turn.
6-9: Repeat row 2.
10: Working around entire edge of piece just worked, sc in each st and row-end. Join with a sl st to first sc. Ch 1. Do not turn.
11-12: Sc in each of first 6 sts, along back edge of piece. Ch 1, turn.
13: Working around entire edge of piece just worked, sc in each st and row-end. Join with a sl st to first sc. Ch 1, turn.
14: Sc in each of first 10 sts. Ch 1, turn.
15-19: Repeat row 14. Fasten off.
Lightly stuff before sewing toe (rnd 1) and edge of flap just created, leaving ankle side open. Sew ankle opening to underside of duck.
Wing (make 2)
Using colour F, ch 21.
1: Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across (20 sc). Ch 1, turn.
2-9: Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. Fasten off.
Fold in half and sew edges together. Sew one of the longer ends to the body of the duck.
Beak
Using colour F, ch 17.
1: Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across (16 sc). Ch 1, turn.
2-6: Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. Fasten off.
Fold in half and sew edges together. Stuff firmly. Sew one of the shorter ends to the face of the duck.
Using black or brown thread, embroider eyes onto face by working several sts in the same place. Fasten off.
Finished dimensions
7 inches tall.
