How to arrange a welcoming fall urn
Elegant yet easy to assemble, this arrangement evolves beautifully from November right through to the New Year, and combines components from your garden and your local floral supply store or garden centre. Follow our "ingredients list" or customize your urn by using materials you have on hand.

Start with:
Heavy urn or sturdy oversize flowerpot filled with garden or potting soil
About twenty-four 43 cm (17 in) lengths of vine, such as periwinkle, English ivy or eucalyptus
One 46 to 76 cm (18 to 30 in) long corkscrew hazel branch OR 4 or five 76 cm (30 in) long curly willow branches
5 jumbo pinecones on floral picks

For November
:
9 potted flowering kale plants: 6 purple and 3 white
6 potted sage plants
3 or 4 pie pumpkins
1 gourd
Faux fruit on floral picks: 2 apples and 2 pomegranates OR real fruit impaled on bamboo skewers

Push cut end of corkscrew hazel branch deep into soil, centred near back of urn. Transplant kale and sage plants into urn. Nestle pumpkins and gourd between plants. Push cut ends of vines into soil, filling spaces, then push in floral picks with fruit and pinecones.
