When the blustery winter months arrive, we look forward to coming in out of the cold to hunker down in a warm and cosy home. Whether your decorating style is traditional or contemporary, or your palette is neutral or colourful, it's easy and inexpensive to transform a room from cold and boring to warm and dramatic. All you need are a few decorative elements and accessories.

Everyday items such as cushions, blankets and rugs; books, photos and art; curios, boxes and tins; and vases and candles will instantly add warmth and inviting charm to any room. Keep in mind that the most successful decorating technique is to mix old and new – blending what's current with what's personal for a truly original space. No matter the season, accessorizing needs to be well-planned, so select your items carefully and avoid the urge to overwhelm your space with accessories. Decorative objects are important to the overall look and feel of a space – this is your chance to create a truly personal feel.

On the next slide, you'll find
budget-friendly tips and ideas to help you warm up your home over the winter.
