Getting started

Make a handy framed bulletin board for over your desk. You can make one in any size and use it to frame photos and art at a fraction of the cost of a professional custom frame.

Materials for a 40" x 48" frame
• Pine boards cut to the following lengths length:
2 - 1" X 3" X 42" for frame top and bottom
2 - 1" X 3" X 40" for frame sides
2 – ½" X 1-1/2" X 47" for top strapping
2 – ½" x 1-1/2" x 35-1/2" for side strapping
• 4 - 2" dowels
• Cork (available by the roll at craft and hobby stores)
• Paint
• Backer board (we used foam core available at artist supply and craft stores)

Tools:
• Measuring tape
• Framing square
• Combination square
• Hammer
• Drill and 3/8" drill bit
• Bar clamps
• Wood glue
• 1" screws
• Miter saw, miter box
• Sandpaper and sanding block or orbital sander
• Awl
• Wood filler
• Glazing points
• Spray adhesive or contact cement
• Flush mount hanging bracket
