Use fruit and vegetables stamps to decorate placemats.

By Candace Weisner, author of Let's Get Going (Red Deer Press, 2004)

(Time required: 30 minutes)
Adult assistance required

Supplies
• Variety of firm fresh fruits and vegetables (such as apples, cucumbers, onions, peppers, carrots and potatoes)
• Paper approximately 11 x 17 inches (28 x 43 cm)
• Nontoxic watercolor paints in shallow dishes such as yogurt lids (if mixing paints from powder, make the mixture thick)
• Knife

Instructions
1. Cut fruits and vegetables into stamps of various sizes and shapes. These can be simple shapes such as circles, squares and triangles or more complex shapes such as apples, bananas or mushrooms.
2. Dip stamps in paint, let excess drip off and then press onto paper.
3. Set placemats aside to dry. (Laminate for durability if desired.)
