Pinecone Place-Card Holders

Bring the outdoors in with decorated pinecone place-card holders.

Supplies (for each):
• Mini terra-cotta flowerpot, 1-1/4 in in diameter*
• Pinecone, about 3.5 cm (1-3/8 in) in diameter and 4 cm (1-5/8 in) high
• Cranberry red and metallic gold acrylic paints*
• Artist's paintbrush*
• Floral wire* and wire cutters
• Piece of card stock, approx 5 x 3.5 cm (2 x 1-3/8 in)*
• Decorative-edge scissors* (optional)
• Metallic gold fine-tip marker*
• White craft glue*
• Plastic container
• Small piece of sponge

*Available at craft supply stores.

Instructions:

1. In container, mix gold paint with water, 2:1. Cut short length of wire; loosely twist around base of pinecone to form loop. Using loop for holding and hanging it by, dip pinecone into paint mixture, then hang; let dry for 24 hours. (If painted pinecones close as they dry, set in sunny or warm dry place for about 12 hours or until scales open.)

2. If desired, trim edge of card with scissors. With marker, draw decorative border on card and write name.

3. Apply line of glue around rim of pot; set base of pinecone on rim; let dry for 24 hours. Balance card on pinecone.
