Christmas in the Philippines just wouldn't be complete without beautiful star lanterns, called parols. Maligayang Pasko!
This project was excerpted from Kids Can Do It: Christmas Crafts from Around the World by Judy Sadler, illustrated by June Bradford (Kids Can Press Ltd., 2003).

You will need:
- a skein of embroidery floss
- 10 pieces of balsa wood, each
- 0.3 cm (1/8 in.) thick, 0.5 cm (1/4 in.) wide and 30 cm (12 in.) long (page 5)
- thick white glue
- 5 short pieces of balsa wood, each 4 cm (11/2 in.) long a 40 cm (16 in.) piece of ribbon or cord 2 or more sheets of different-colored tissue paper
- a ruler, scissors
