Knit a striped sweater with heart trim

Knit up a wearable sweater to keep your sweetheart snuggly warm.
Complete your striped sweater with heart trim

To shape shoulder:
Cast off 5 sts at beg of next and foll alt rows. Work 1 row even. Cast off rem 4(4,5,5,6) sts.

SLEEVES
With smaller needles and MC, cast on 45 sts. Work 13 rows in (K3, P3) rib pat as given for Back.

For XS only, next row (wrong side): Work rib pat, dec 1 st at centre of row. 44 sts now on needle.

For L and XL only, next row (wrong side): Work rib pat, inc 3 sts evenly across row. (48,48) sts now on needle.

For all sizes you have 44 (45, 45, 48, 48, 88) sts now on needle.
All sizes: Change to larger needles and join A.
Next row: Knit.
Next row: Purl.
Next row: With MC, inc 1 st in first st, knit to last 2 sts, inc 1 st in next st, k1. Next row: With MC, purl.

Work Chart 2 (for chart click here), working 12-st rep 3 (3,3,4,4) times. With MC, work 3 rows St st.

Proceed in stripe pat as given for Back, AT SAME TIME, inc 1 st at each end of needle on every foll 8th(8th,6th,6th,6th) row 9 (11, 4, 3, 7) times, then on every foll10th (10th,8th,8th,8th) row 2 (1, 9, 9, 6) time(s). 66 (69,71,72,74) sts now on needle.

Cont even in stripe pat, until Sleeve from beg measures 45.5(47,47,48,48) cm/18(18.5,18.5,19,19) ins, ending with right side facing for next row.

To shape top:
Keeping cont of stripe pat, cast off 3(4,4,4,4) sts at beg of next 2 rows. 60(61,63,64,66) sts now on needle.

Dec 1 st each at end of next and foll alt rows 12 (12, 13, 14, 13) times, then on every row 6 (6, 6, 6, 8) times. 24(25,25,24,24) sts now on needle.

Cast off 3 sts at beg of next 4 rows. Cast off rem 12(13,13,12,12) sts.

To finish:
Pin pieces to measurements; block. Do not press.

To make collar:
Sew right shoulder seam. With right side facing, smaller needles and MC, pick up and knit 15(16,16,16,16) sts down down left front neck edge. K22(22,22,24,24) sts across front st holder. Pick up and knit 15(16,16,16,16) sts up right front neck edge and 3(5,5,5,5) sts down back neck edge. K30(30,30,32,32) sts across back st holder, dec 0(1,1,0,0) st at centre. Pick up and knit and 3(5,5,5,5) sts up left back neck edge. 88(92,92,98,98) sts now on needle.
Row 1 (wrong side): P3, [k2, p3] to end of row.
Row 2: K3, [p2, k3] to end of row.
Rep these 2 rows for 9(10,10,10,10) cm/3-1/2(4,4,4,4) ins, ending with right side for collar facing for next row.

Change to larger needles.
Next row: K3, [p1,M1P,p1,k3] to last 5 sts, p1,M1P, p1,k3. 105(111,111,117,117) sts now on needle.
Next row: P3, [k3,p3] to end of row.
Next row: K3, [p3,k3] to end of row
Rep last 2 rows until Collar measures 24(26,26,26,26) cm/9.5(10.25, 10.25, 10.25. 10.25) ) ins. Cast off in (K3, P3) ribbing.
Sew left shoulder and collar seam, reversing collar seam at fold. Sew in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams.
