Knitted dog bone blanket

This dog blanket is great on its own or as a cover for any furniture you need to protect. And if your dog is brown, just reverse the colours.

Finished size
36 inches wide by 36 inches long

Materials
• Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride Superwash Bulky (100% wool; 110 yds = 100 g): 7 skeins main colour (MC) SW10 alabaster and 1 skein contrast colour (CC) SW117 sable
• Size 10.5 (6.5 mm) circular needle, 24 inches (60 cm) long, or size needed to obtain gauge
• Stitch markers (optional)

Gauge
• 7 sts and 10 rows per 2 inches over double seed st
• 7 sts and 9 rows per 2 inches over St st

If your row gauge is off, it's okay; you just won't have a square. It is important, however, that the row gauge in St st and the row gauge in double seed st are not too different.

Double seed stitch (dbl seed)
Row 1: *K1, p1; rep from * across, end k1
Row 2: *P1, k1; rep from * across, end p1
Row 3: *P1, K1; rep from * across, end p1
Row 4: *K1, p1; rep from * across, end k1

To make
With MC, CO 127 sts.
Work in dbl seed for 21 rows.

Row 22: (WS) Work in dbl seed for 15 sts, PM, knit 97 sts, PM, work dbl seed for 15 sts.

Row 23: (RS) Dbl seed 15 sts, p1, k95, p1, dbl seed 15 sts.

Row 24: (WS) Dbl seed 15 sts, k1, p95, k1, dbl seed 15 sts.

Rep rows 23-24 until 54 rows of St st have been worked, ending after a WS row: 26 reps.

Continuing in pattern, work intarsia chart (click here for chart) over middle 29 sts, using CC for the bone.

You might want to put a PM on either side of these sts to make it easier to keep track. Of course, you will have to have 2 balls of the MC here.

Rep rows 23-24 until 54 rows of St st have been worked after completing CC bone, ending after a WS row: 27 reps.

Next row: (WS) Dbl seed 15 sts, p97, dbl seed 15 sts.

Work in dbl seed for 21 rows.
