Knitted ball ornaments

Decorate the tree with these balls in festive colours – kids will love helping you make them.
You need
Sock yarn or double-knit yarn
One set 3.5 mm or 4 mm short double-pointed needles
2-inch (5 cm) Styrofoam ball
Darning needle
Glitter (optional)
Craft glue (optional)

Instructions
1. Baste on 30 stitches (sock yarn). Or, baste on 27 stitches (double-knit yarn). Leave a long tail attached at each end.

2. Knit until tube is 2 1/2 in (6.5 cm). Cut yarn, leaving 6 in (15 cm) tail. Thread needle with tail. Transfer stitches from knitting needles to darning needle. Pull closed and secure.

3. Stretch yarn to fit ball inside. Thread darning needle with remaining tail; baste around top. Pull closed and secure.

4. With leftover end, make a 2 in (5 cm) loop and secure. Sew or glue on glitter, if desired.
