Shopping list

• 2 rectangles oilcloth 10-1/2 x 11 ins (26 x 27 cm)
• 1 matching zipper, 10 ins (25 cm)

Sewing box
• Tailor's chalk or dressmaker's white marking pencil
• Tape measure or ruler
• Matching thread
• Dressmaking scissors

1. Draw (with chalk and ruler) and cut out the two rectangles.

2. Machine-sew the zipper along the longer sides of the oilcloth rectangles, then topstitch 1/8-in (3 mm) from the edges on the right side of the oilcloth. Open the zipper.

3. With right sides together, machine-sew the three sides of the bag in straight stitch, 1/4 in (5 mm) from the edge.

4. For the cropped corners, machine-sew a seam 3-1/4 ins (8 cm) from the corner to form the angles at the sides of the cosmetics case. Cut off the corners 1/2 in (1 cm) from the seam. Turn the case right-side out through the top opening.
