How can I impress on my 2-year-old that hitting her sister isn't allowed?

Dear Mom,
Two-year-olds are like little puppies. They lack the words they need to communicate their feelings and they show feelings through their behaviour. Having said that however, we still need to let the little whipper-snappers know that hitting isn't OK. Here's how:
Every time your little lady hits, I'd use a no-kidding-around voice and say, "Please don't hit your sister. Hitting hurts!" You say it firmly and you redirect her to another activity. Make sure that you compliment her when she's playing nicely with her sister. Be proactive and try to help them avoid situations that usually end up in conflict. Two-year-olds need to be watched closely, and even shadowed, so you can prevent problems before they happen.
