Fall is such a beautiful time of year. The change of seasons brings cities to life with incredible vibrancy. Then all of a sudden the beauty is gone and the darkness takes over. It's dark when we leave for work, and for some, when we get home. Our children have trouble adjusting and we have trouble adjusting.
Halloween has not been my favourite time of year. It's ugly outside because the green, gold and red beauty is gone and the snow hasn't replaced it. It begins to get cold and I usually feel the blahs.
Yet over the years, I have worked to change my attitude and must admit that I'm beginning to really enjoy the fall. I'm almost sure we have more people who decorate for Halloween than for Christmas and those decorations bring a glow and lightness to the neighbourhood. My children talk about Halloween and their costumes for months, which offers excitement to us all. (OK, I'll be a honest, it also brings on anxiety about how exactly to turn my daughter into a beautiful devil).
But now Halloween is over, we've entered November and I can't help feeling that this is a very magical month. It can be a month to regroup and catch up or to get a head start on the holiday season.
