Once you've mastered this technique, you'll add these onions to just about everything—dips, omelettes, burgers, soups and more.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 large onions , halved and thinly sliced lengthwise (about 9 cups)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Method

In large nonstick skillet, melt butter over medium-high heat; cook onions and salt, stirring often, until golden, about 10 minutes. Reduce heat to medium; cook, stirring occasionally and adding water, 1 tbsp at a time, if beginning to stick to pan, until softened and browned, about 10 minutes.
