Prince William rarely speaks publicly about his mother Princess Diana's death, but this week, he candidly consoled a nine-year-old girl who had lost her father.
The Duke of Cambridge was visiting a child bereavement centre in London when he comforted the girl, named Aoife, whose father had died of cancer, according to The Telegraph.
"You know I lost my mummy when I was very young too. I was 15 and my brother was 12. So we lost our mummy when we were young as well."
He also emphasized how important it was to talk about her grief. "Do you speak about your daddy? It's very important to talk about it, very, very important."
The Prince was joined by his wife, Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, in the official visit to Child Bereavement UK, on its one-year anniversary.
"It was really nice that he talked to me," Aoife was quoted in People. "It was like there are other people who know what it is like to lose someone."
The Duke and Prince Harry's mother, Princess Diana, was killed in a Paris car crash in 1997. This August will mark the 20th anniversary of her death.
