Method

Whisk together cream, eggs and sugar. Set aside

In large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder and salt. Using pastry blender or 2 knives, cut in butter until in coarse crumbs with a few larger pieces. Stir in cherries and chocolate chips. Using fork, stir in cream mixture just until dough forms.

Turn out onto lightly floured surface; knead gently once or twice until dough comes together. Pat out to scant 3/4-inch (2 cm) thickness.

Using floured 3-inch (8 cm) round cutter, cut out rounds, rerolling scraps once. Place, 1 inch (2.5 cm) apart, on parchment paper–lined baking sheet.

Topping: Brush scones with cream; sprinkle with sugar. Bake in 450°F (230°C) oven until tops are light golden, about 12 minutes.
