We all love homemade cookies at holiday time, but if you think it takes days of rolling, cutting and moulding to fill enough cookie tins for the season, we’ve got a delicious surprise for you. With our pick of bars, drop cookies and shaped cookies, all you need is an afternoon to do everything from measuring the nuts to transferring the last cookies from cooling racks to storage tins.

• Read the recipes.
• Set out butter and eggs to come to room temperature 1 hour before baking.
• Assemble ingredients for all cookies before starting.
• Toast and chop nuts for all recipes.
• Preheat oven.
• Measure ingredients for each recipe before beginning recipe.
